As the Head Coach, Frank, it is your job to fix the damn problem! USC pays you $2.45 Million per year and your teams are the worst free throw shooting teams that I have ever seen. This glaring weakness, which is so easily identified, continues to persist. This glaring weakness keeps costing us wins.

We have no idea what you are doing to try to fix the problem. The only thing we do know is that you have completely sucked at fixing the problem. The record will support no other conclusion.

Since we have no idea what you have tried, here are a couple of observations. Both Felder and Dozier, today, were leaning back as they released the ball. The effect is a subtle, fade away free throw. Who teaches that??? Who allows players to shoot free throws like that??? I was taught that if there is any movement (for those who do not remain stationary from a balance standpoint), that any subtle movement should be forward - toward the basket.

Here's another suggestion (no extra charge for this advice): Free throw shooting time is the only appropriate time for a player to be "greedy." Free throw shooting time is the time for a player to pad his stats. Free throw shooting time is an opportunity for a player to "get his points." The more points you score for your team, the more likely you are to get playing time. The more points you score for your team, the more likely you are to be recognized for being a significant contributor to the team. Taking "bad shots" and "too many shots" to "get your points" is selfish. Getting to the line and making free throws is the only appropriate time for a player to be greedy. Our players need to be greedy at the line. Our players need to get their points and pad their stats at the line. Our players need to be "hungry" at the line. If we have players who don't want to score points, then we need to get rid of those players.

Frank, we can all agree that free throw shooting is a critical part of the game. If you can't teach players how to make free throws at a high percentage, then please, please, please stop recruiting players who can't shoot free throws.

15 feet away. Unguarded. Muscle memory. Reproducing the same motion, over and over and over. Focus. Concentration. Confidence. You don't have to be quick. You don't have to be strong. You don't have to be tall. You don't have to be able to dunk. You don't have to be able to make 3 pointers. You don't have to be a great ball handler. You don't have to be a great rebounder. You don't have to be a great passer. THE ONE SKILL THAT EVERY BASKETBALL PLAYER HAS TO HAVE IS THE ABILITY TO MAKE FREE THROWS AT A HIGH PERCENTAGE. Everybody else on the court is standing still. Make the free throw. Then make the next free throw. Then enjoy your team's victory.
