Hoops recruiting notes, tidbits before Bojangles Bash

The annual Bojangles Bash starts tonight at Ridge View and continues through Saturday, hosting some of the top talent from South Carolina and across the Southeast.

There are eight guys really, all in-state the Gamecocks have had their eyes on ranging from the 2019 to 2021 class participating this weekend. Right now, it's not clear if USC will send its assistants to this over any of the three days. The team just finished up a game at Wyoming and will go straight to Ann Arbor, Michigan today and stay there until they finish up the game against the Wolverines.

That doesn't leave a lot of time for assistants to get on the road, but it could feasibly happen. A lot of targets play Thursday/Friday, so it's plausible. It'll be something to keep an eye on tonight.

The Gamecocks' 2019 class is full at the moment with 13 scholarship players signed on currently. If a player opts to transfer, then a scholarship could open up. USC will now try and get a head start on the 2020-21 classes and start luring in prospects there.

Here's a look at some of the targets South Carolina's recruiting and their recruiting backgrounds:

2019:

Trae Hannibal, G, Hartsville

Schedule: 6:15 p.m. Thursday vs. Our Savior New American

Hannibal is one of three USC commitments in the 2019 class and signed his NLI last month. He's a prototypical guard in Frank Martin's system that can facilitate and attack the basket. He's played some point but is more of a combo guard that can score as well. The staff really likes him and he's a three-star right now they feel is very underrated. I've seen him play multiple times and think he's probably a borderline four-star type player.

He was most recently on campus for a visit last weekend, seeing the Gamecocks beat Coastal Carolina. He's been on campus numerous times. He had a minor foot injury in the preseason but is back to full health now after resting on it a little. He's had a really, really good start to his senior season.

2020:

PJ Hall, PF, Dorman

Schedule: 7:30 p.m. Friday vs. Trinity; 7:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Ridge View

This is probably the primary target in this class, a four-star player coming in at No. 89 in the Rivals Top100. He's a big man that can do a little bit of everything and South Carolina's been on him for a while, offering him this summer before his now junior season.

White's also receiving a lot of interest from Clemson, Florida and Tennessee. His sister plays volleyball at Florida, and when the Gators came to Columbia to play, he came down and attended the basketball team's practice before watching his sister play.

Myles Tate, G, Dorman

Schedule: 7:30 p.m. Friday vs. Trinity; 7:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Ridge View

Tate, Hall's teammate, is a point guard and could develop into the state's top point guard by the time he leaves high school. He's already earned an offer from USC, a few weeks after Hall got his. Right now the Gamecocks are one of two Power 5 offers (N.C. State is the other).

Dillon Jones, SF, Keenan

Schedule: Friday 7:30 p.m. vs. AC Flora

Jones picked up a South Carolina offer at the end of August and has been communicating with the coaching staff since then. He hasn't been on campus since but told us in November he's shooting to get on campus soon for a visit.

He's a long, active defender and feels like he can do a lot of things on the court, especially on the defensive end. Here's the latest on him here. Georgetown is also showing some interest.

Patrick Iriel, F, AC Flora

Schedule: Friday 7:30 p.m. vs. Keenan

There isn't much on Iriel yet, but he's an up-and-coming guy in this class. South Carolina's been in for a few visits to his school to watch but nothing's materialized yet. He does not currently have an offer.

2021

Joshua Beadle, G, Cardinal Newman

Schedule: Saturday 6 p.m. vs. Gray Collegiate

Beadle is probably the guard the Gamecocks have their eyes on the most in this class, hosting him a couple times on campus for a visit but not offering yet. This weekend will be the first time I watch him play and get an update on his recruitment.

Tyler Rice, G, Ridge View

Schedule: 8:45 p.m. Friday vs. Aspire; 8:45 p.m. Friday vs. Oak Hill; 7:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Dorman

Rice is another guard that the Gamecocks are tracking. He's been on campus a handful of times, once this football season and another for basketball this year. He's been able to interact more with the coaching staff and is building a relationship. Rice, like Beadle, has a change to develop into one of the better in-state players of the class. He does not have a USC offer at the moment.

Robert McCray V, G, AC Flora

Schedule: 7:30 p.m. vs. Keenan

McCray is another good guard in the class whose recruitment at the moment is similar to that of Iriel's. He's had a few visits in school but nothing much right now.
