Not much to lose in this game. As usual, several of our best players are out.
I'd rather see what CG can do if Zeb doesn't have it.
Get the young guys some experience.

Edit: Haha. This post didn't age well!

I don’t know. I wonder how much the 4th string QB can contribute, especially with others missing. I wouldn’t mind giving him a series to see what he can do, but we all know our QB for next season won’t be playing in the bowl game.

Bowl games don’t matter a ton but I do think that Muschamp never recovered from the Belk Bowl disaster against UVA. It’s one thing to lose a bowl. It’s another to get blasted by the Wahoos.

Yep, don’t count on it. The staff seems to be in love with the coach-turned-QB. Barring injury, I expect he’ll take every snap (except for the 4 wildcat runs for a total 2yds). But to the OP’s point, a bowl game - this bowl game - would be a perfect opportunity to get CG some reps.

He won't play in the bowl game unless it is an emergency. Even if Zeb sucks or gets hurt they will use DK as a backup. Now, if DK gets hurt too ...

I want to be upbeat because it was a good year, but this qb situation puts us in a world of hurt. I'm not sure Gauthier wants to go out there and be a sitting duck if things turn bad. That's not really fair to him. Hope it does not get to that. It all hinges on the o line.

Unless the rules have changed, I do not believe so ... I believe you're allowed to participate in 3 games without it impacting the redshirt (3 or 4) ...
I believe there is some grey area as to whether it applies to post season games though, especially if that is the only game the athlete appears in. I'm having a time finding a definitive explanation in my rule book.

at one time you had until about midseason to play and still redshirt but I think a bowl game would burn the redshirt. Ernest Jones did the same thing his first year, I remember the commentators saying he chose to play even though it would burn a year.

True but I'm pretty sure there is a cut off date in which they have to play them by.
I'm pretty sure there is not. There used to be dates for medical redshirts. You can play in up to 4 games and not use up the redshirt. You have five years to play 4 years and potentially another 4 games.

Are there any negatives from the new rule?

SEC coach: I think there are some things that will come from this, but I do think there's going to be an influx of transfers. You play a kid two games and then you pull him back; he goes through the whole year and he does everything you ask. You get to the bowl game and you're going to play that kid because you're anticipating he's going to contribute next year. So you're going to play that kid in the bowl game because it doesn't trigger his redshirt. There's going to be somebody on the team that says if you're already playing him in the bowl game ahead of me, I'm probably not going to play next year. So that's going to create some transfers or movement.

ok, so w/ this news - there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO reason for Gauthier - or an other in same status / situation - to not play...RMO III

Whatever happen to Tonka Hemingway? All I heard about this past off season was how he added good weight and he didn’t do anything this year. I guess every team has hype at the beginning of the season. I can’t wait to hear the hype next season. It will not be about our WR Corp I can tell you that now.

I've been wondering the same thing. It seemed like he was poised for a breakout year. And then... nothing.

Saw that Rattler reached out to the WR from Utep that is transferring. We need him badly. We’ve always had at least two good WRs in the field in past years other than this past year. We need to go get another RB as well. Once a deep RB room is not so much after this year.

Gauthier will play. If they dont roll him left or right out of the pocket he will be hammered.
