I'll bet you think that is a statue of Ben Tillman.
Yep. And fought in the Confederate Army. You got me, because I'm sure there are no slave owners or Confederate soldiers in the USC family tree. One valid charge you can make against him is that he made Clemson University possible.
By the way, any vandalism of either campus is repulsive and infantile. We can agree on that, hopefully.
yeah but USC isnt named after a slave owner so idk if its relative. Also not sure if they have any statues of slave owners on campus but, I dont recall any.
Just curious why "Slaves" was capitalized.Well the Horseshoe was built by Slaves so you have that going for you....

wow quite a reach there lol nice try though bubba
How is that a reach? It is a fact.
Both schools have skeletons in their closet from a dark time fro the south and the nation as a whole.
Only because one of their own took a chunk out of it.Not in the early to mid 80's. Wasn't even on a fancy stand like it is now. It's in a case now and, I think, they have camera's on it.

This comparison of racist backgrounds between Clemson and USC is pointless. Both schools have extensive history that is steeped in racism.
The University of South Carolina was built by slaves. Slavery was an integral part of The University until the Civil War. The University actually closed its doors rather than admit black students after the Civil War.
I don't know about specific statues on campus, but it's a fact that practically every building on The Horseshoe at USC is named after a prominent slave owner.
Most, if not all of the founders of USC were racist slave owners and yet, they are memorialized on The Horseshoe to this day.
It's just silly to try to perpetuate the idea that one school is racist and the other is not.
History says otherwise.
Here's a link to a very thorough treatment of the subject actually produced by USC

If worse comes to worst, we can rename every building on campus to satiate the politically correct. I'm curious what name Clemson will choose for their university? You know it's coming so you might as well start thinking of names. This comparison of racist backgrounds between Clemson and USC is pointless. Both schools have extensive history that is steeped in racism.

Think we should tear down the Washington Monument?I'll bet you think that is a statue of Ben Tillman.
No....you were named after a state that seceded from the Union due to slave ownership disguised partially as States Rights. Know you are proud. Truth is, that we would have all been behind our state if we lived during that time........since there were zero South Carolinians that fought in the Union army!yeah but USC isnt named after a slave owner so idk if its relative. Also not sure if they have any statues of slave owners on campus but, I dont recall any.
Oh my gosh.......please!Okay I guess this is kinda tough to grasp on but, I will try to elaborate.
Slaves building a structureis not equal to or greater than celebrating/naming/constructing a statue with a racist slave owner.
You see one is simply serving a function after all those years, the other is glorifying the legacy of a racist.
Absolutely! This has turned into a ridiculous argument that nobody can win.
But back to the original premise of the thread, can't we all agree that vandalism of either campus is only done by low lifes that neither of us are proud of?
When USC was built, pretty much everything in the South was built by slaves. Ben Tillman is the most despicable character in the history of SC.Well the Horseshoe was built by Slaves so you have that going for you....

They didn't try to hide them. They proudly displayed them which is far worse.except Clemson doesn't even try to keep the skeletons in the closet. It celebrates the skeletons by building statues.
The sad part is that you probably really believe that!except Clemson doesn't even try to keep the skeletons in the closet. It celebrates the skeletons by building statues.
You're actually defending Tillman? Pitch fork Tillman?
Tillman later recalled that "the leading white men of Edgefield" had decided "to seize the first opportunity that the N......s might offer them to provoke a riot and teach the N......s a lesson" by "having the whites demonstrate their superiority by killing as many of them as was justifiable". Hamburg was their first such opportunity. Butler blamed the deaths on intoxicated factory workers and Irish-Americans who had come across the bridge from Augusta, and over whom he had no control. Tillman later said that the Hamburg massacre was one of his life's proudest memories.
John Drayton who founded USC was a slave owneryeah but USC isnt named after a slave owner so idk if its relative. Also not sure if they have any statues of slave owners on campus but, I dont recall any.

I've always heard this on here but I've looked closely at the horse and it doesn't have a sack. Was it removed at some point?Remember the stallion statue in front of Wardlaw College?
Back in the day some clown was always spray painting it's testicles garnet.
