we would CURRENTLY rank 12th, based on another site's rankings. That's not bad, not bad at all. Between the "new blood" coming in and Mike Shula as our Offensive Coordinator (an upgrade over Loggains, imho), things are looking good for the 2025 season.

Is this Don Shulas son? The one that coached at bama years ago?

Yes. In his 3rd season there, he led them to a number 8 national ranking and was then given a contract extension for 6 years. For whatever reason, he was fired after his 4th season there. Reminds me of Lane Kiffin, who led Southern Cal to a Top 10 national ranking in his 2nd season there and then, for whatever reason, was fired in the middle of his 4th season there. Like Shula, Lane Kiffin is offensive-minded. Not a bad comparison if you ask me. Shula has been an Offensive Coordinator in the NFL. One year as OC in the NFL, he was named the "Offensive Coordinator of the Year", which is better than Dowell Loggains who had the reputation as the "worst Offensive Coordinator in the NFL".

So how much does a 12 ranked class cost? How many times are they going to give for a 9-4 season ? Return on investment is hopefully a 10 win season and playoffs. Man that’s a lot to replace for that to take place.

I remember going down to the bama game for my yearly road trip a long time ago and we beat em pretty easily. I remember listening to Stabler on the radio afterwards and he was not very happy. I was extremely happy for a successful road trio. I had to admit though that was a beautiful campus. Police on horseback, huge beautiful campus. Great trip. Just wanted to check and see if that was shula. He might’ve got fired if that was the year we beat em at home.

How would I know how much it cost? Must not be as much to replace as you think for On3 to give Carolina a pre-season number 7 ranking. Have you contacted On3 to tell them you disagree with that pre-season ranking?

By the way, I have never seen you write one positive thing about Carolina football. Why is that?

Where does that put us in conference? Although good, that's what really matters.

Very good question. Unfortunately, only 9th.

It's a tough conference. That's why it's imperative we have good "coaching", like we did this past season.

How stupid some Clemson fans are who are begging to join the SEC!!! If they know what's good for them, they will want to stay in the minor league.

Now if we could just finish 9th, we'd be dancing most years. That's really not much to ask imo but I do expect a bad year every so often to be thrown in.

For those interested, they are currently #21 in comprehensive rankings at Rivals (I think it'll move up a little, but some of the recent adds haven't gotten fully graded out yet).

Yes, this should be available on our front page. Working on getting that link there.

Lets be honest about this. If you look at the history, they have done well against the SEC. In the last 10 years they have won 14 and lost 9. And I think I can say that the SEC had a down year in 2024.

I will add a few facts:

1. Clemson plays in a weak conference. Therefore, they can target big games, which is what SEC teams provide. If Clemson had to play SEC teams throughout the course of a season, that would be a tougher road for them. You yourself said back in June that South Carolina had "a tough row to hoe" in the SEC. It would be no easier for Clemson.
2. Many of those 14 wins came at the tail end of Spurrier's time at SC when he was going through the motions on his way to retiring. And a bunch of them were also against us when Muschamp was the coach at SC.
3. The SEC may have been down this year. BUT we beat teams, Oklahoma, on the road and Texas A&M (and possibly Missouri) , not to mention non-SEC foe Clemson on the road, who had better player talent than us, based on recruiting rankings. And we came within an eyelash of beating Alabama on the road and LSU, who also had better player talent than us ( we gave those 2 games away).

I suspect that 99% of Carolina fans would agree that Clemson in the SEC would be a much, much tougher task for them to handle. And if we injected Clemson fans with a truth serum, they would say the same. In the ACC, Clemson's road to the playoffs is a done deal from the get-go. In the SEC, there would be no guarantee of them making the playoffs.

None of the above is meant to slam Clemson. I am just trying to be honest about the situation they would encounter in the SEC. They would be better off being a part of the ACC.

The Tigers would have more money from the Sec and then the recruiting pitch would change and they could get better players especially now with the new cfb pay for play. It’s not a secret that the Sec and Big Ten are the best conferences. Clemson has benefited from playing in the ACC no doubt about it but the Tigers have invested heavily in their football program and want to compete at the highest levels possible

You make some very good points. But we should not use Spurrier's decline and the Muschamp tenure as excuses. The record is what it is.

Excuses? No. Just being realistic. The last 2 Spurrier teams and all the Muschamp teams had a combined record of 38-48 and a SEC record of 21-37. That's not a record of a typical quality SEC team. If all the SEC teams were of THAT opposition, Clemson fans should want to crawl from the palmetto state to Birmingham to join the SEC. But, that's not typical SEC quality. Thus, Clemson fans would be wise to not dream of joining the SEC. Don't misunderstand me. I WANT Clemson in the SEC. If that happened, their easy path to the playoffs would be OVER.

Yes, they would have more money. But the other SEC teams would not have less. And don't fool yourself, a recruiting pitch from Clemson now is that they can pretty much guarantee recruits a pretty easy path to the playoffs to play for the national championship. If they were in the SEC, they could not make that pitch. Don't misunderstand me: I WANT Clemson in the SEC because their easy direct path to the playoffs would no longer be available to them. Yes, the SEC and the Big 10 are the best. Clemson in the SEC would relegate them to mediocrity. If you don't believe that, check out what has happened to Arkansas and Texas A&M when they left the Big 12 for the SEC and Nebraska when they left the Big 12 for the Big 10. Arkansas football had won 13 conference championships prior to joining the SEC. Texas A&M had won 18 conference championships prior to joining the SEC. Nebraska had won 46 conference championships prior to joining the Big 10. Do you know how many conference championships all 3 have won since changing conferences? ZERO. By the way, Clemson already competes at the highest levels. Why do you think I WANT them in the SEC, and I do? I'm not slamming Clemson here, at least not intentionally. I'm just telling the truth with provable and documented facts. If I was a Clemson fan, I'd be careful of what I wish for.
