For the Gamecocks programs? Is beating the Tigers the most important issue or is winning the conference championship more important? Seems to be a lot of confusion amongst gamecock fans as what’s the goal here?

The goal each season is to win as many games as possible. Beating Clemson is an obvious bonus in that objective.

Gamecock Fans who claim we can go 1-11 as long as we beat Clemson are engaging in hyperbole.

That's been argued for years. I think it was Spurrier who took down all the "beat clemson" signs, with the thought that if we competed in the SEC, that game would take care of itself.

Before i answer, I have a question. Haven't really thought about until now.
Now that there are no divisions, in football, do we have a regular season champ like the other sports? Or is the only champ the one who wins the championship game? ...two team playoff as it is.

They're not mutually exclusive.

I don't think anyone would have rather traded seasons for Clemson's i.e. lose to Clemson but then lose in the first round of the playoff versus beating Clemson and not making the playoff.

If you can’t beat Clemson, quit playing them. If the game don’t matter, quit playing them

My wish is that our teams in all sports have good seasons- winning record-- and do as well as possible. I don't personally need to have a win over Clemson or a conference title to consider it a good season.
