Is it just me

Drill bits, saw blades, and maybe extension cords (generally anything that is likely to get worn out or damaged by regular use) are about the only things I'd consider worth buying from Harbor Freight.
Never power tools

A contractor friend said he once loaned a chain saw and it was brought back broken. Said that the person was using it to cut trenches in the dirt. Didn’t oil it. It was locked up.

I dont mind lending my tools to anybody, but I never do simply because I can't ever find them. When I need a tool for myself it comes down to 2 choices. Either spend a half day looking thru a mountain of junk or going to Harbour Freight & buying cheap Chinese crap that always gets the job done. I'm at Harbour Freight alot. I'm just not going to spend 3 hrs looking for my hammer when I can buy one for $10.
why not spend 3 hrs organizing your jungle and eliminate the search and re-buys?

It’s like this, nobody is going to take care of your tools the way you will cause you paid for them and you treat them right. Plus, there’s a chance you won’t ever see them again because again nobody cares more about your stuff than you! I’m right there with you!
Interestingly, that’s exactly what Adam Smith said in his book The Wealth of nations, published in 1776. He argued that property rights is a key component of Capitalism because people value the stuff they have to work for.

I think the same logic partly applies when people pay more for better quality things like tools. Not only are they more reliable, you'll take better care of them as they are more costly to replace. Of course this requires that you not lose them or loan them out. 😄

On the other hand, there was a good man over here that borrowed a chain saw from a friend. When it was returned, the saw was cleaned AND WAXED and the chain had been sharpened to a tee.

you can borrow most anything from places like autozone and the like. small deposit and you get your money back when the tool is returned.

I have my tools that no one else can touch. Then I have a bunch of crap tools that I either was gifted, found, or came upon somehow but didn't buy. People can borrow those.
