How can we leave UGA's top receiver uncovered on this play? Our secondary looks completely lost. That's on the coaches.

I agree that is just bad coaching. And I'm pretty sure most of our defensive players were 4 star guys. Also most of Lamberts completions were short throws to wide open receivers. So I'm guessing the defense has a lot of blown assignments.

How do you attribute that to coaching versus (a) player missing assignment or (b) player mismatch?

I watched it several times and it appeared to me that the D was in zone coverage. UGA ran a TE cross which caused one of our players to move to the front end of their assigned zone leaving Mitchell open toward the back end. It is unclear what happened behind Mitchell (eg Was someone assigned to that area?) since that was out of the screen.
