The Shane Beamer Camp circuit is fired back up today as South Carolina is set to host camps Thursday, Friday and Saturday to close out the week. Both Thursday and Friday will be a little different than the previous camps in that both of those days will feature an OL/DL Camp and a team 7-on-7 passing tournament. The OL/DL camp starts bright and early at 7:30 a.m. and runs through 12:30 while the 7-on-7 tournament starts at 9 a.m. and will go to 5 p.m.
We'll post some more names and teams as we get them, but two teams that will definitely be there and have players we're tracking are Camden and Oceanside Collegiate.
Camden is, of course, home to class of 2023 defensive tackle Xzavier McLeod who will get his first opportunity to work with defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey. McLeod's latest trip to South Carolina went about as well as it possibly could have and I believe the Gamecocks exit that trip as the current favorite. Getting him back on campus can only be considered a major positive and make no mistake, he's a top priority for South Carolina.
Oceanside Collegiate's top prospect is four-star class of 2023 offensive lineman Monroe Freeling who has a ton of offers including from South Carolina.
The Gamecocks are a bit behind with Freeling right now, so this trip will be his first opportunity to meet the new staff and for the Gamecocks to try to make a move into the mix with him. The previous staff delivered his first offer and he's blown up in the year since then with a ton of offers.
Oceanside is also home to class of 2022 offensive lineman Jacob Ashley who has offers from Georgia State, Charleston Southern, Old Dominion and Howard.
It will also be our first opportunity to get a look at class of 2024 cornerback Zai Offord. As Chris detailed in this article, Offord is the son of former Gamecock and NFL defensive standout Willie Offord, who is now Oceanside's defensive coordinator.
Former Gamecock KC Crosby is also on staff there.
Oceanside has a couple of other guys we'll be keeping an eye on in class of 2023 running back Vaughn Blue and class of 2024 DL Ben Britton, who already checks in at 6-foot-3.5, 250-pounds.
