Hello all. Will Muschamp scheduled to speak with the media. Scrimmage just finished up and he should be in the media room soon.
Putting the updates in this post, so all you have to do is refresh.
--Muschamp "disappointed" about the Kiel Pollard news. Said he's a "wonderful young man" and was poised to have a really good year and continue to play pro ball. Was a small fracture in his neck and they found a cyst on his spinal cord after meeting with three or four specialists. Coaching is the next move for him, Muschamp said.
Kiel Pollard will be a part of the Gamecocks' staff this fall and will still be around the team.
Injuries: Keir Thomas will be cleared sometime next week. Been doing individual work but hasn't done any 11-on-11 work. Good news on Evan Hinson, who will only miss about three weeks now after a successful procedure.
Rico Dowdle and Bryan Edwards were held out today but they'll be back Monday after tomorrow's off day. Brad Johnson's been limited with a groin injury and hasn't scrimmaged yet.
--Scrimmage was a little sloppy but they did a few good things in terms of one-minute situations and red zone work. Looking forward to breaking down the tape but there were a few procedural things that concerned him.
--Muschamp pretty mum on the backup quarterback battles. Said Jake Bentley had some good moments but he's "looking forward to evaluating the tape on Ryan and Dakereon."
--Josh Vann and Shi Smith stood out today. Smith's had an "exceptional camp" and has done good things in terms of making guys miss, bringing in some 50/50 balls.
--Asked about DJ Wonnum, said he's looked really good so far. Asked also about recruiting Dylan Wonnum and said he recruited Dylan without even thinking about DJ.
--No update on Nick Muse's eligibility. Said they're currently on the NCAA's timeline.
--Jammie Robinson is going to be a "really good player for us this year." He's repping well at nickel and safety, Sanders is working with the safeties and nickel. Johnny Dixon and Cam Smith have done some good things as well, he said. All of them will play this year, Muschamp said.
--JT Ibe still out with that strained muscle, something that kept him out at Rice for about two weeks. Said they're in a wait and see pattern right now.
