Loggains Gone

These same people bitching are the same ones who hated Loggains.
We're screwed......apparently Beamer hired Mike Shula because "he wanted to be here". The new AD also wants to "be here".

Shula is a good move because it's someone that offensive players clearly know and seem comfortable with- and it's good to get this done so quickly.

I also feel pretty confident in saying this is what Sellers and the QB room wanted to some degree.

Word is that Loggains wanted him as OC at APP State.

Now that Shula has the job. I would hope Shane and Mike reach out to another offensive analyst to fill in for Shula's role- someone Mike trusts and knows- maybe from the NFL. They might want to wait until after the NFL season though to hire someone from there. So this might take a bit unless he already has someone in mind from the college ranks.

This might sound crazy- but what is Frank Reich doing? Might be worth Shane calling and asking if he wanted to help out offensively.

We need a good offensive analyst on the sideline to help the QBs.

I'd like to think he's the best OC hire Beamer has made.

This hire would have gone over a lot better had Shula been hired two years ago instead of Loggains.

Unfortunately, it looks like a lazy hire after the hype we had this offseason and knowing the asset we have in Sellers.

Shula is here because of Loggains. That was the connection. Otherwise, he's not here.

So you're saying Beamer is struggling to attract talented OCs on his own?

I said Mike Shula first came to South Carolina because of a connection to Loggains.

Coaches often hire coaches they have a connection to in some fashion (either themselves or through a trusted assistant) or know well. That was the case with Beamer and Loggains. That's the case with Loggains and Shula.

Many experienced coaches prefer having a connection of some type to a coach or program.

It turns out, Shula jumped to an analyst role for a coach he did have a connection with in Loggains.

There is now a connection with case Beamer and Shula.

Routine.

Any South Carolina coaching job is fraught with risk. Not any more so than other schools but it has a reputation as a dead end for any and all coaches.

He's a vacant troll. His words are empty by design.

Beamer just received SEC Coach of the Year today.

Watson will likely not see the sun today.

You're saying a lot of words without much substance.

I'm just explaining a very basic and routine procedure. It's not complicated.

I think most people are satisfied with Mike Shula taking over the offense and understand it would have been unrealistic to hire him 2 years ago given he was an NFL assistant and Shane Beamer didn't know him at all and likely wouldn't be looking at an NFL analyst he didn't know and no one on the staff knew, and hadn't been a college coach in 21 years to hire for the OC job.

and I also feel certain the criticism had he hired someone he didn't know and no one on the staff knew, who hadn't coached in college in 21 years at the time for offensive coordinator, the criticism would have been unrelenting.

"Why the hell did he hire a guy that hasn't coached college in over 2 decades?"

"What an idiot. He had to hire a guy who hasn't recruited a college player in forever"

"They don't even know each other at all. How did this ever happen"

"Why didn't he go out and at least hire a current coach with SEC experience"

and on and on

Now, I know you blame Shane for not hiring Shula 2 years ago as OC. But I think 99.999% of people wouldn't - nor would they think that is fair or realistic.

Here's your substance.

We'll be fortunate if Shula can perform anything close to how Loggains did this year -- especially the 2nd half of the season.

Nonetheless, we ended up averaging 31.8 points and 410 yards per game which was right behind UGA.

Once it was gelling the 2nd half of the season, the offense averaged 497 yards per game which (if scaled) would have been 3rd in the nation behind Ole Miss and Miami.
