Luke Doty

Very impressive considering he hasn’t played QB but a few years.

This year will be only his second year as full time starter at QB. His Soph year he split time at Tight End/Receiver and QB, his Jr year was his first full time and he promptly won the State Championship. He's the real deal.

FRISCO, Texas– Wednesday marked the end of the Elite 11 Finals, with the event wrapping up as the nation’s top quarterbacks competed in the final day of 7-on-7 action. 247Sports was on hand all week at The Star– the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility. It can be difficult to arbitrarily add weight to the varying number of reps and opportunity each passer received during the event’s 7-on-7 portion. With that said, we saw a top group of passers emerge with consistent showings on a daily basis over the course of the week.

Here’s how we ranked the signal callers after five days at The Star.

4. Luke Doty - The South Carolina pledge cooled off a bit during pool play on Tuesday but rebounded on Wednesday tossing 5 touchdowns to help his team avoid early elimination. Doty was among the top performers the first two days of action with strong showings in drills, the simulated pro day and red zone 7-on-7. During the tournament portion, he threw 7 touchdowns to 2 interceptions and finished with the event’s highest touchdown to drive ratio (for any quarterback with over 18 passes), throwing for a score on 70% of his opportunities. The 6-foot-1, 197 pounder showcased some of the event’s best feet and quickest releases. He’s mechanically sound and threw a catchable ball all week. After King, Doty also tested as the most athletic quarterback on hand, running 4.66 40-yard dash, a 4.25 second short shuttle and jumping 35.5 inches.

This guy could be the real deal. Hillinski too!

Think so too. We seem to have the QBs to attract and impress the WRs now.
lets hope they can Throw on the run, unless they get some BEEF up front.. Gonna be fun to watch this year!!

nothing says more about athleticism than your vertical leap....JMO.

FWIW, a vertical of 30 inches is considered extremely athletic. The average high school level athlete is around 22 inches.

Doty at almost 3 feet. 6 inches higher than the average college basketball or football player.

Ryan is the complete pocket passer. People were raving how the ball came off his hand it made a sound. Luke is more DT.

Say what!?! Ryan could barely throw it 50 yards at the Manning camp this year. It was boederline embarrassing and he tried teo times. Doty will be the starter, he is the real deal.

Maybe talent wise. Shaw had the it factor tho.
Yes, talent wise he is better than Shaw. It will be exciting to see how this plays out. Shaw made Spurrier look like a genius in many games due to his legs. Maybe Doty can do that for Champ.

Pretty sure Spurrier's genius made him look a genius. Shaw made play out of nothing.

I love Spurrier. I watched him at Duke beat Clemson. I watched him at Florida. He was a genius for a while. He could take lesser talent and win for over 20 years, but some of the game passed him by. Defenses were quicker. Defensive coaches were smarter to wide open offenses. Don’t you remember that Spurrier struggled offensively during the first several years here? It was the defense that had us winning games initially. Run up the score? Spurrier sat on a lead here! He wasn’t able to beat people by 40 anymore. Two things changed our fortunes, Marcus Lattimore was the first thing. He got yards where no one else could. Then when the defense started keying on Our run game, it was Garcia and Shaw, whose scramble ability and running ability, opened up our offense even further. Our inefficiency had gotten so bad at one point that It was Shawn Elliot who called Spurrier up and said coach, I can come in and give you a run game. Those 10+ win seasons looked nothing like the genius of Spurrier in Florida or Duke. I will say that he drew up a good game plans on certain Saturdays. Still, Shaw saved many a game for us and he and Garcia, with their legs, gave us that something extra for other teams to think about.
