Who is left at linebacker with experience besides Walton, Moore and Holloman?

Oh boy. The mountains out of mole hills gang will be back on here in full force blasting the program and coaches like they always do when a player decides to leave. Like me they have no idea of the factors that led Roberts to take this course of action but they will make up numerous reasons anyway.

How dare they have a topic for conversation.

I don't believe I called out a coach or player or alluded to any reason why he left. I'm also not saying the sky is falling. To me, it's just a little concerning but if he doesn't want to be here let him go. I just hope we have some decent depth for this upcoming season.

Only weary with the ones who'll use this as an opportunity to blast the coaches and the program with the same old, same old.

You may see a couple of more players leave as well...apparently the new DC doesn't take any crap and will work those guys to death, which is a good thing IMO.

Thanks. Good to hear. Hoke doesn't mess around then it appears.

It was clear from the start that Roberts was not an SEC caliber linebacker.Several of the safeties from last year fall into the same category.Add a couple of DE's as well.Maybe this year we'll at least field a defense that has the athletic ability to be successful.

This

Probably a great kid but look at his HS offers. He was a kid we took a chance on he did not develop the size and speed needed after being in the program three years. He did not have SEC offers and did not develop into SEC player.

Good luck to him and I hope he finds playing time elsewhere.

So most fans complained all year about how pitiful our defense is but now we should all be concerned that a LB who barely contributed is leaving the team?

I would think freeing up a schollie for someone who can contribute significantly in the future would be a good thing.

This is just part of the transformation of our defense..We all should be happy to see change taking place.. Best of luck to Marquise wherever he lands...

I hear you, Sully. Just look at all the people freaking out on this thread. I mean, one guy wondered about depth at linebacker and the remainder complained about all the people (count: ZERO) that were going to complain about coaching. This place is getting hysterical.

Not saying he was ever a superstar but he played in every game and was the fourth best linebacker tackler on the team behind Moore, Walton and Holloman (two tackles behind Holloman), so I'd say he contributed some. I'm simply concerned with depth but I'm sure Hoke has a plan in place.

I do know if working them to death is a good thing or not. I just want him to work them enough so that they keep the other team from scoring as much as we do.

That puts us at 85 schollies, don't think anyone else is going to leave.
Oh no, there will be more, in my opinion only.

Spurrier has repeatedly said that those that don't want to be here will be identified and will be gone.
I suspect that during spring practice, Hoke will see how his coaches work and how his players work.
I would then expect to see a couple more leave at the end of spring semester.

CLEARLY, the defensive side of the team didn't put the effort in last offseason, and didn't do much to catch up during the season. Some will get with the new program, but I can't believe they all will.

Jeez we just signed a 30 man class. We gotta make room. It wasn't just poor defensive adjustments by the coaches it was lack of talent. We're gonna win 10-11 games next season. Defense is gonna look totally different next season and we're gonna forget how terrible the 2014 D was real quick.

If they don't want to be here or put in the work that it takes to be a top program I can only wish them well......

Clearly some folks besides just a few coach's needed to step it up or step out.....

With this season all we heard was that there had to be some changes....now that there are changes coming, some question the changes. We can not keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results! Lets sit back and see what is coming down the road and things will ( I hope) start to make sense to us then. Some of our players did not put out 100%, maybe they will either change or be weeded out. For those of us who are in the business world, sometimes you have to make changes or you get passed by.

This. The coaches are just cleaning house and making room for the newcomers.

Sherrod Pittman is likely to be a difference maker at LB as well as a freshman.
Really good player.

Ward is supposed to be the DL & LB coordinator.

Players don't transfer because they're good enough to start and just want to go elsewhere.

all i will say

I looked his recruiting info up to see if this was a major loss, how his talent was evaluated out of HS and/or whether he was not developed by our staff.

He was a 3*. His best offers besides us were Wisc & WVU. The rest of the offers are mid-majors. He's from GA & neither of the big schools there offered him. I think he was a fill-the-gaps-with-bodies kind of recruit. If we are upgrading, he wouldn't have played much here.

So, yes, players do leave to go somewhere else they can play.
