What you are talking about has nothing to do with officiating. That has to do with today's player not wanting to be embarrassed over social media. Frankly, I have no idea what you are talking about right now. What do you mean by contact where the defender does not gain an advantage. You have incidental contact at times and refs generally let that go. However, most times a defender panics and uses his chest or arms to impede. That is a foul and I think you know that. I think you are just being an old guy right now and finding things to complain about. That's what we old people tend to do at times instead of enjoying things for what they are. If you want to watch 80's basketball, just watch You.tube or NBATV or something. There are plenty of those types of games over there. However, I think you have been disingenous in your criticisms and I have responded to that. No, modern basketball is not perfect, but no decade of basketball has been. That's my point. You can go back and slow down tapes of each decade of play and find very bad things. ....and this is not some young guy trying to pump up modern basketball. In fact, from your posts, I think I go back a little further in basketball than you. That's why I can look at 80's and 90's basketball with a more critical eye. Even then, I don't bash that period of the game all the time.I wasn’t talking about clotheslining, forearm checks and such things. Yes, all that should be called. I’m talking about Ricky tack fouls being called where no one gains an advantage. And about players jumping out of the way so they won’t get dunked on. Giving open paths to the basket, etc. contact is allowed unless someone gains an advantage.
Finally, the funny thing is how you try to prop up the college game as opposed to the professional game. You are always highlighting your issues with officiating there. However, you probably don't know that the college game is littered with former NBA refs that got fired because they no longer made the cut after 2-3 years in the professional game. You wouldn't know that unless you followed both games. I wouldn't come at you like this. However, one of my pet peeves is when people trash things and you see that they don't quite know what they are talking about.
