According to information posted by Steve Lorenz of 247Sports ($), Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh plans to meet with Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt to presumably discuss a job opening.

A week ago, and after just one year in Ann Arbor, D.J. Durkin vacated his post as the Wolverines’ DC in order to become the next football coach at Maryland.

As of now, Greg Mattison, the D-line coach and former DC, is set to coach the Wolverines on New Year’s Day against the Florida Gators in the 2016 Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Like Mattison and Durkin, Pruitt is considered to have one of the brightest defensive minds in the game. Since joining the Bulldogs back after the conclusion of the 2013 season, Pruitt has crafted incredibly effective defenses. Jumping from No. 45 overall to hovering among the top 10 to 15 certainly bodes well for Pruitt, who is among the most popular potential candidates.

Georgia finished the 2015 regular season with a 9-3 record, the same as Michigan, and turned in the No. 8-ranked total defense. Michigan boasted the No. 1-ranked total defense during the middle of the season and finished with the No. 4-ranked unit.

In 2014, Georgia finished the year with the No. 17-ranked total defense. In 2013, the season prior to Pruitt’s arrival in Athens, the Bulldogs finished with the No. 45-ranked total defense. Michigan has had a top-15-ranked total defense for the past three years, two of which were orchestrated by Mattison.

According to several reports, Alabama is also interested in Pruitt. The Tide just lost defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who took the head coaching job at Georgia after spending nine years in Tuscaloosa.
