5:50 p.m. update
We are told Zach Arnett is not on the immediate return flight to Columbia on the USC plane.

We're continuing to dig here for more on today's meeting, his candidacy, etc.

3:52 p.m. update
GamecockCentral.com can report that the university plane that landed in Starkville, Mississippi this afternoon was indeed carrying head football coach Shane Beamer.

Beamer's previously-scheduled 4:00 p.m. Zoom press conference to formally introduce new wide receivers coach Justin Stepp to the media was also postponed.

Original update
Got additional word out of Starkville that South Carolina has been involved with Mississippi State defensive coordinator Zach Arnett.

Arnett came up - played for, GAed for, and moved all the way up to DC for - Rocky Long at San Diego State. Long is still in coaching (at New Mexico now) and is regarded as one of the more innovative and sharp defensive minds in the game. His system is unique and was frequently a headache for teams to play against.

"It's like running the Wing-T on defense," one source told us. "It totally messes with people."

Arnett, obviously, runs that system. His background in terms of positional coaching is at linebacker.

By the way: the university's plane is currently en route to Starkville. We're working to confirm if this could be related to Arnett.
