Oregon was not targeted for selective drug testing during the College Football Playoff, sources told CBSSports.com.

Ducks coach Mark Helfrich told the Portland Oregonian last week at the Pac-12 media days he'd been led to believe Oregon was only one of the four College Football Playoff teams to undergo drug tests.

However, a source familiar with the process said all four teams -- including Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State -- were all randomly drug tested. Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman first reported that all four schools were randomly tested by the NCAA.

Oregon continues to be frustrated by the suspension of receiver Darren Carrington. The redshirt sophomore was suspended the week of the CFP Championship Game after a reported positive marijuana test. NCAA penalties call for a half-season suspension for such a violation. Last year the NCAA reduced the penalty from a marijuana positive from a full season, perhaps reflecting social mores.

"If one team is tested in the College Football Playoff everybody should be tested in the College Football Playoff," Helfrich told the Oregonian. "A holding penalty is not 10 yards in the first quarter and 25 yards in the fourth quarter. There is some element to that now."

Per NCAA protocol, when an NCAA championship reaches the semifinal round each squad undergoes random drug testing. The NCAA does not sponsor a championship in the FBS postseason (CFP). However, like the BCS before it, the CFP is an NCAA-sanctioned event. The NCAA does randomly test athletes at bowls, though not all the bowl teams. An equal number of athletes per team is chosen for urinalysis drug testing.
