Nice but, we better finish strong in the Portal if we want to become a Top 10 team. Right now our Portal class is ranked only 25th. That is a "head scratcher" after the season we just had.
I really wonder how much a team that came close to making the playoffs really wanted to be in a bowl game? Being in the bowl game is a downer after being so close to making the playoffs. So, I would not read too much into the bowl as the way "to play Sellers". Bowls need to now be discontinued. If you don't make the playoffs, your season should be over. I have not watched any of the bowls, other than Carolina's. And my interest in that one was minimal. With what the gamecocks lose on defense and their top rb. Looks like a long way to a top 25 team. The Illinois team showed how to play Sellers going into next year.
If that’s the case then the gamecocks season ends at thanksgiving most of the time. Sellers has to get better at throwing because just being a running threat is not enough.I really wonder how much a team that came close to making the playoffs really wanted to be in a bowl game? I agree with all of that. So what if the Gamecocks season ends at Thanksgiving? With the playoffs, bowl games are now obsolete. Bowl games were meaningless BEFORE the playoffs. TODAY?????????????? Bowl games are not worth a bucket full of horse manure. If that’s the case then the gamecocks season ends at thanksgiving most of the time. Hope so because 2.7 million for the bowl game performance and the defense will be hard to replicate next year with so many of the best players eligibility gone. Sellers can’t do it by himself.I agree with all of that. So what if the Gamecocks season ends at Thanksgiving? With the playoffs, bowl games are now obsolete. Let's not forget that this was, in essence, only Sellers first year. He will get better.

This is so much bull$hit……They won’t even be in the top 20.
He also didnt run with the ball like he did during regular season. He had lots of chances to run and didn't like he did in regular season<I think this is quite the reach. Sellers wasn't able to throw to open WRs because he didn't care about the bowl game?
Maybe not, but isn't it nice to get this kind of respect for a change? This is so much bull$hit……They won’t even be in the top 20.
100%. The staff clearly decided beforehand that they wouldn't let Sellers take unnecessary risks in a bowl game that didn't matter too much.He also didnt run with the ball like he did during regular season. He had lots of chances to run and didn't like he did in regular season<
The portal has much more attention this year than the prior few years. Bargain hunting is not what it used to be.Nice but, we better finish strong in the Portal if we want to become a Top 10 team. That's why finishing strong in the Portal is a "must".Sellers can’t do it by himself.
I'm not a mind reader. But, I can count. There are 11, not one, men on offense.I think this is quite the reach. Sellers wasn't able to throw to open WRs because he didn't care about the bowl game?

Two comments by 2 different commenters on another site:
1. "If Beamer was serious about getting win number 10, he would have kicked the field goal instead of faking it."
2. "It was suggested he (Beamer) treated the bowl game as a scrimmage ('to try new things')."
Is any of that true? I don't know. NOBODY KNOWS. I KNOW and can only tell you my attitude as a graduate and long-time fan. On a scale of 1 to 10 rating my excitement about that game (with 10 being excited like a teenager about to have sex for the first time and 1 being in need of Blue Chew), I was a 2. And that's being generous. Did the team and coaches have that attitude? Like I said, I'm not a mind reader. But no one on this site is either.
It all depends on where we are with the NIL budget. Sellers was $2.7 million so that was a huge hit. Most of the portal players are looking for the largest paycheck and all of the deep-pocket schools also have their eyes on the portal now. That's why finishing strong in the Portal is a "must".
Just as an aside to your comment: I was not able to make it to church today. So, I watched a ministry on TV. The preacher in his sermon mentioned the Transfer Portal (that everyone was talking about it).The portal has much more attention this year than the prior few years. Bargain hunting is not what it used to be.
I can't verify it but someone on a text group I'm on said we have gone from being in the lower half of the SEC in NIL money to the upper half.It all depends on where we are with the NIL budget. One of them was definitely not you. I don't know who the other one was who was referred to. I was too lazy to trace it. We lost. It was what it was.Don't know if that comment was about me or not, but I had suggested over there that the offensive gameplan was a bit of a scrimmage.
Sellers barely ran, and the gameplan seemed to be to try and make him a strictly pocket passer.
Rather than suggest the new OC was now an idiot, I proposed that they intentionally were working on his passing game, and also didn't want to risk injury while running.
Hence, scrimmage and trying to develop his passing game.

Looked like Beamer and company were trying to get win number 10 on the season because that hasn’t happened very many times at all so I’m just quessing it was a little more than a scrimmage to the team.
Just pretty ridiculous, last year they had us 5-7 pre-season, and that seemed pretty likeable to be honest. Yet, we won 9. Nobody has any idea if we will even be a Top 25 Team next year, nobody. With the out-of-control NIL and portal, every year basically starts from scratch, trying to put new players in to support the ones we know are coming back. And even if we finish so-called "Strong" in the portal, there is no guarantee the players will excel here under Beamer's system. The only good thing is that a lot of teams are in the same predicament.
Holding back anything to avoid injuries will not prevent them from getting hurt. So the staff told him to stay in the pocket and not run because we don’t want you to get hurt. You can’t really believe that. Try telling the thousands of fans that spent thousands of dollars on them to see them win not really trying to win because our quarterback might get hurt if he starts running or we just want to work on his passing ability. Oh manThey were certainly trying to win the game. But I don't think it's so unreasonable that the staff may have used this opportunity to work on Sellars throwing, while holding back his running attempts.
It could be for avoiding injuries or simply getting live fire work against a real team outside of practice.
I prefer those options to the idea that our new OC wants to put a leash on Sellars legs and make him a pocket passer.

The only option is that the Illinois team stuffed the run and said beat us through the air and Sellers couldn’t and his teammates didn’t help him out either(drops). That’s the blueprint going into the next year for the gamecocks opponents. One other option is that the OC made those changes, and that's the intention going forward. I don't like that option.

Is Sellers really that bad of a passer? 24-34 for 260 yards seems pretty decent to me. Yes that was a terrible pass in the end zone to Simon in the 4th q that would have put us ahead but on balance those stats are pretty good. Plus as pointed out there were several key drops. The only option is that the Illinois team stuffed the run and said beat us through the air and Sellers couldn’t and his teammates didn’t help him out either(drops). Keeping Sellers in the pocket is the best option for any defenses because it’s when he scrambles that he becomes more effective because of his size and speed. Right now he is a better runner than passer. Is Sellers really that bad of a passer? 24-34 for 260 yards seems pretty decent to me. While I predicted a good season for the Gamecocks this past season, you were consistently negative and doubtful about it. You were wrong about this past season's team. Time will tell if you will be wrong again about the 2025 team. The only option is that the Illinois team stuffed the run and said beat us through the air and Sellers couldn’t and his teammates didn’t help him out either(drops). Most people were wrong about this season slayer and I was one of them and congrats on your achievement. Maybe Beamer can get them to 10 wins this year. I’m quessing you’re predicting he does. While I predicted a good season for the Gamecocks this past season, you were consistently negative and doubtful about it. Yes there were many who were pessimistic about the 2024 season. But most were not consistently negative about the Gamecocks over time. I'm not predicting anything yet before our recruiting (Transfer Portal) is over and I see how things look during spring practice. Most people were wrong about this season slayer and I was one of them and congrats on your achievement. Yes indeed.Maybe not, but isn't it nice to get this kind of respect for a change?
