In addition to that, it's homophobic for you to assume effeminate is equivalent to gay. I could argue he's making an ironic challenge to heteronormativity and inherent biases around masculinity and sexuality in our society. I can also assume that gay people aren't wilting pansies that need my protection from the summer heat. Paternalism is the worst bias.
