South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner is speaking on 107.5 The Game right now. I'll update this post with some notes as he speaks.

** Tanner starts by talking about the newly announced partnership with Altius Sports, a name, image and likeness (NIL) advisory and education firm, to aid the school with its NIL related activities. ASP will provide strategic guidance and educational support through customized NIL programs tailored to the needs of the school's athletic department and student-athletes. The programs will include management of NIL rule changes, maximization of new opportunities, and helping South Carolina create unique platforms for its student-athletes to learn about and capitalize on the new NIL rules.

Tanner says that they don't yet have an exact timetable on when the NIL changes are coming but they believe the changes are "imminent."

"At the end of the day, NIL is upon us. ... We need to be prepared and ready to go." Wanted to be proactive in gathering information on what we needed to do to be prepared. "They will have us prepared." Texas, Ohio State and LSU are also partnered with Altius. Met with other firms, along with Chance Miller and others at USC, and felt Altius was the best fit.

This is about simply being ready, according to Tanner. The important thing is that we're not going to be playing catch-up, he says.

** Asked if the Gamecocks will be in the new EA Sports College Football game: We don't know yet, exactly how NIL will be defined. But once it is, we'll move rapidly in that space, to give our student-athletes the opportunities to engage.

** Tanner on the NCAA basketball findings: There was no lack of institutional control and there was no knowledge by the head basketball coach of what the assistant was doing.

"There was some diligent effort put forth by our staff." There was an employee who stepped out of bounds and was guilty but it was isolated and no one else was involved. Tried to make sure the NCAA knew exactly where we stood

"It was a good outcome. ... I'm very comfortable with the outcome. ... You don't want anything to happen, but he was one of our employees and you do have to be held accountable from that perspective but again it was an isolated situation by one employee "
