Will Muschamp spoke and had the following to say...

** About 170 snaps today. Energy was good, but too many silly penalties, etc. More competitive plays today though. Made some contested catches, some strong runs and some good pass rushes even when there was good protection. Like to see guys competing on both sides.

** Got some live punt, punt block and kickoffs. That's good for the young players. A little further along on special teams than we've been before because of depth.

** There was some give and take between offense and defense. First team offense looked good on first drive then defense responded on next drive. Think we're really improving.

** Thursday start game planning for Coastal. Will give guys Wednesday and Thursday off their feet physically but start the mental prep for Coastal on Thursday.

** Wyatt Campbell had a knee scope and is out for a month. Lavonte Valentine also had a scope and is out for a couple weeks. Both were to clean up those HS injuries.

** About 90 percent of the offense is installed. Really everything that they'll continue to add is stuff that's based off of concept they're already doing and stuff that the guys are comfortable with.

** Had a couple of third downs that were complete for first downs but were very well contested by the defense and that there were questions on if it would have been a sack or not (no hitting the QB). Just really happy with the competitiveness. Both sides battled.

** Happy with the running game right now.

** Asked about Javon Kinlaw... sometimes in life someone just needs someone to believe in them. Kinlaw trusted us as far as the plan at JUCO to get him eligible. He was a little reluctant at first, but it's an unbelievable story. Had no friends in Mississippi when he got there because he didn't know a soul - now he goes down there during off time to see the friends he made. He ended up on the dean's list at JUCO. He got here at 340 and totally dedicated himself to getting better. It's one of the great stories in college football.

** Center Chandler Farrell has been put on scholarship.

** The weather was too good again today. Wanted for the guys to have to deal with some heat to get them ready for a noon kickoff against Coastal. Going to practice in the afternoon some this week to try to find some heat.

** Muschamp confirms what we've thought in our reporting that if the season started today is that Parker White would be field goal kicker. Still battling it out, but that's where it is right now.

** Tanner asked about a year ago about doing the concert here. Getting that concert was a win for the program and a win for Columbia. They've had to adjust and adapt a little bit but that's fine, because that's a part of the game. Scrimmaged at the practice fields today and then did "halftime" in the

** Michael Scarnecchia is the team's backup QB. Can win with him. Gave him some reps with the first team today just to throw him in there and let him respond and he did. He has a really good command of where we are. Joyner and Urich showed some things too and happy with their progress.

** If the season started today, then Bryan Edwards would be the punt returner.

** Eager to watch the tape from today. The defense has been good at times but inconsistent. there are still positions that we're anxious about. Safety is still a concern, backup linebacker is a concern.

** Tavyn Jackson has not practiced, still dealing with those heat issues.
