OT: Anyone Been to Bali?

I'm thinking of taking the family to Bali for a vacation after Christmas, but have never been. Anyone who has have any thoughts on where to stay? We're really torn between being on the beach, (maybe around Kuta?) and being in Ubud. We've heard great things about both options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I've never made it to Indonesia yet, so I'm really psyched about the possibility!
