OT: Anyone else tired of seeing the Tom Selleck reverse mortgage ads?

Salleck - SoCal alum, enough said.

As an alternative there's a senior "Return of Premium Life Insurance" commercial that has a South Carolina alum...

I tire of them as well. And they are the longest commercials on TV. But it would take a lot more than that to make me turn the channel to the loons on MSNBC or CNN

I agree. It is embarrassing for me to admit sometimes I watch the enemy stations. Mostly to laugh at their stupidity.

I know what you mean. Some guy at work toddy had the radio on and I had to listen to Rush Limbaugh.

My magnum PI contribution - Obama group recently bought the Magnum beach house and tore it down to build a bigger complex .

Maybe all the oceans are not rising like they want us to believe.

I don't actually really care :D However, I am thinking of taking a mortgage loan, especially after COVID killed all my investment plans. At first, I thought that a loan is shameful and a wrong choice, but consulting with people in this domain, I understood that a good decision to make. It's essential to find a good specialist in this area, and I was lucky to reach an excellent later life lending broker. It helped me understand that taking loans isn't tricky, and we agreed on some excellent terms.

More tired of Chris Paul State Farm commercials. And the Cash Back with the girls in the office. And the ….. well, don’t like any commercials nowadays.

I dont know much about the reverse mortgage but always thought it was a way to take an older person's home once they passed, or either the kids have to pay off the outstanding balance on a once paid for home???? Any financial folks out there that can clear that up for me?

Not sure of the answer to that, but I have to believe the children of those who get a reverse mortgage won't be expecting to receive much in the will.

Maybe it’s for those that have nobody to will to. Just get me by until I’m outta here.

In the words of Matthew Quigley: “I said I don’t have much use for a reverse mortgage…never said I didn’t know how they worked.”

If they need Tom to sell the "we're not crooked" line, well it doesn't really make me feel better about the scheme.
Well they are better than the Henry Winkler, Jerry Orbach, Robert Wagner and Fred Thompson ads that ran before.

I can't believe anyone actually watches TV ads anymore.
I know. They are still being irresponsible with their placing of ads every 6 or 7 minutes, tho.
For an hour show that breaks down to about 43 minutes of actual programing. Then the idiots put upcoming pgm advertising or station ID on the screen during non-commercial time. Very distracting and it's even against FCC rules but they don't do anything about it.
That Whoopie commercial bugs me. 99.9% of commercials bug me even tho I have a remote and skip them. I don't believe I could sit and watch a pgm if I had to pay the price of commercial watching.

Just like Joe Namath begging for money on social security ads. Those reverse mortgages are not worth the money they pay.

I'm willing to pay the extra 2 dollars on Spotify and Streaming TV content to forgo any commercials. I know others don't agree with that sentiment, but I'm OK with it.

I can see the positive aspects of a reverse mortgage when you are really young and your income will go up significantly, especially if you’ve chosen a lucrative field.

However it is clearly predatory behavior. The only senior citizens that could benefit are ones in financial trouble on a fixed income that are basically disowned or disowning all other living relatives. Even then, the business is still taking the house at their death (if not sooner).

They're much better than the Liberty Mutual wet teddy bears commercials. Those mystify me.

At some point, someone went into a meeting and pitched that idea, presumably with a straight face. It was well-received enough to get the thumbs up to formally considered. Then the higher-ups had to sign off on it and commit to a million-dollar ad campaign.

Definitely in the running for the stupidest of all time. They should have just left money on a street corner with their logo on the bag.

I know Geico set the trend for pointless insurance commercials, but theirs have generally been funny or at least I've been able to understand why might see them as funny.

Speaking of leaving money on a corner, Geico should've done so with those Brian Orakpo/Caveman commercials about a decade ago. Essentially, the caveman had to identify who Orakpo was in the commercial. What's the point of having a "celebrity" endorser if the people watching don't know who he is? Mind you, I don't blame Orakpo for taking the money, but it seemed like a waste to me.

If Selleck had invested his money wisely, and lived more modestly he would not need to be hawking a dubious reverse mortgage scheme.

What do you mean? According to wealthygorilla.com, he is worth $45 million. If you can't trust wealthygorilla.com, who can you trust?

What's wrong with mortgaging your house and spending the cash on fun and entertainment during your senior years? Why keep a bunch of assets for your heirs to sit around like vultures waiting for you to die?
I have good relationships with my heirs and want to leave them something when I die. Nothing wrong with a reverse mortgage ethically, but I want to leave something to my family.

My heirs are also independent and working, and are not asking for anything. They also have good jobs and don't need anything. I have educated them and taught them not to be spendthrifts, so I am proud of that.
