OT: How late in the year can you ski at Sugar Mountain?

If I were going, I would get up there as soon as possible. Probably will not get any better than it is right now.
March 13th, you are really taking a chance. I will take a guess that conditions will be icy early morning and wet, very wet by afternoon.

Would Winter Place be better that time of year?

Never been there before, but heard it is an easy drive, about one hour further than Sugar but straight up 77...

How do the slopes compare?

Give a few hours and you can ski in your backyard. Or so they say. ;-) **

I went this past weekend. Saturday was great. Sunday looked like the rain was taking its toll on the mountain. Mid March may be pushing it.

It definitely depends on the year. I have ski there mid March before and the conditions were decent and I have also ski at Sugar in mid Marcch and the conditions were bad. Like I said it just depends on the year. But, most years mid March is pushing it, as one poster stated above.

might be tough with all this global warming stuff

Skiing is never very good in North Carolina.

Anyone who has ever been anywhere else will tell you that. Your best hope is to get there when there is a significant snow in the evening and then you ski in the AM before all the powder is gone and you're back to the ice base.
