OT: Truck: Chevy vs. Ford vs. Nissan. vs. Toyota vs. Dodge

I've had nothing but Chevys Trucks and SUVs since 1985, and usually trade very 5 years. Followed the maintenance schedule and changed the oil when due, never had a problem. If I have good luck with a product, I usually stick with them.

My son bought a new 2014 Ford F150 FX2 EXT Cab two months ago before the new 2015 aluminum trucks hit the ground. He got a great deal with all the discounts, incentives and 0% financing. He wanted the 5.0 V8. Truck looks good and seems to drive great. Might want to look into the 2014 F150 closeouts.

USCegghead,
You do it by starting off with some calculations on the diminishing value of your vehicle, along with some compound interest calculations on what your money can be worth if you invest it and let it grow. I am setting myself up with a plan to retire from working for the man at 55 years old, and that starts with driving a vehicle for 10-12 years, only ever buying one at a time with a 4-5 year payoff schedule and saving and investing the rest.

People don't NEED a new vehicle. That 10-12 years for me could be 150K miles, and it could be 250K, but it'll be 10-12 years. I wont be looking at cars to tempt my desire because its not gonna happen. I also start that process by buying something that I believe will last that long and for me, in general (I don't own a truck) that is likely to have a Toyota logo on the front.
