By all objective standards, Murray State should not get in the NCAA tourney. They won a lot of games (including 25 in a row), but they have an RPI of 69, and have only one win over a top 100 RPI team (#68). And their strength of schedule is a paltry 258. They lost their conference tourney, and since they're in a one-bid league, they're out.

However, there have been some rumblings about throwing regular selection standards out the window to make an exception for them. Their coach lays out his argument in the attached article.

So what say you? Make an exception, or stick with the rules?

I think they deserve a bid. If you go 16-0 in confrence that is more imptessive than the tournament results. Furthermore, they lost in the final by 1 point. They were ranked no 25 by the coaches the last week of the regular season. They want get in though. Its all about the numbers and they come up short. The eye test or these facts mean little to those choosing the field.

Fig Newton was a huge winner at Murray State. That should tell you how hard it is to win there. My dog could probably coach them to an OVC championship. They missed their chance, now they should go to the NIT.
