Reggie Anderson: Bryce Thompson to end the night with offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma

Damn fine question!!
Probably some struggle between some liberal arts professors and the athletic dept. The liberal arts profs might want to show that USC academically superior to other schools in their class.

Just a conjecture. I agree, it doesn't make sense.

Yeah, that's not how it works.

Yes but a media member in our own back yard clouds the air for a local kid.

I hope he is the greatest Gamecock ever and tells Reggie “no comment” the rest of his life

It's amazing how our local media constantly tries to denigrate our program and university as a whole.

Say what you will about the COC (Cult of Clemson), but they have their media toeing the line up there.

I just don’t understand in this era, why say anything???? I’m sure it was a misunderstanding from his “sources”, but now in an appropriate manner BT has made Reggie to look like a fool.

I also don’t understand this trigger finger to throw mud at USC and attach some drama to a young man who is obviously focused on reaching his goal.

i love how all of you just assume because Thompson said its false info its automatically the truth. Ever think he is saying that because he is embarrassed it has come to this? How many times has someone said something isnt true and just a rumor only to found out it was true. Besides all Anderson tweeted was that he may have offers from Tenn. and Oklahoma. Whats wrong with saying that. Maybe those schools found out he might not be able to get in at USC so they offered. He didnt say he is committed to TN or OK. I would say let it play out because all of you jumping on Anderson will be the fool if his story is true and you took the word of a high school kid.

Today is the first day of the signing period, so just because he doesn't sign with us today doesn't mean that he won't eventually sign with us. USC can't take his LOI until it's absolutely certain he will qualify. If his LOI is accepted and he doesn't qualify, then that spot still counts as one of the 25 offers.

Amazing to me that LOI don't have an academic contingency clause.

& why say anything at all..... statements based on maybe through social media... triggers reactions and “stuff” that is unrelated to the real matter at hand. I would except better from the Adult & I am proud of the young man for trying to close the “maybe”.....

You’re right in that it will play out.

Why's it have to be liberal arts professors? Pastides is a Public Health guy. I think the stereotype you are hinting at of academics caring about academics extends to professors of all types

I really doubt this was an instance of "denigrating our program," seems like Reggie just got some bad info. It happens.

To your second point, the media is definitely in the bag for Clemson up here. It's nauseating.

This would not be about professors caring about academics, this would be about academic posturing. If this really did happen, It would be about the administration pretentiously insisting their school is on a higher academic plane than the other SEC, or equivalent, schools. It would in no way advance academics in any imaginable way.

I have seen academic posturing, and IMHO liberal arts professors were the worst that I have experienced. However, I don't doubt it could happen in any department. Maybe I should not have singled out liberal arts.

When I attended USC in the early 70s after being in the workforce, I had already earned a physics degree. My intention was to then take enough engineering courses to get an engineering degree and therefore improve my job marketability. At that time, however, the USC Physics and the USC Engineering Deptments were locked in a struggle over who would teach the engineers physics, and how, and at what level it would be taught. When I finished my first two USC summer school engineering courses, It became evident being a USC Physics graduate in the USC Engineering school could be a big negative. Therefore, I enrolled in the fall at Clemson for the three semesters it would take to complete my degree.

When I went to the Clemson English department to request they equivalize my USC freshman English courses to fulfill the Clemson English requirements, they gave my some kindly counselling on why Clemson English courses were so much superior to USC English courses, and why they could never be substituted for their department's courses. Pure b.s., but what could I do? Fortunately, the engineering dean overruled their decision. Note that I spent more time at USC and grew up in Columbia and am therefore a Gamecock fan.

By the way, I experienced some wonderful USC engineering, physics, chemistry and math professors, and some wonderful Clemson engineering professors, and although I was not their best student, I am grateful to them!

I have experienced academic rivalries and academic posturing. Hate to see Bryce and/or the the USC athletic department harmed possibly due to academic posturing. I hope this is not what is happening.

well looks like a couple of you owe Reggie Anderson an apology. Appears there are some other offers that came in for Thompson just like Anderson tweeted. Way to trust what a high school senior says as fact.

Where was the factual disagreement? Anderson said "These schools have offered." Thompson said "I remain committed to USC." I don't see where either contradicts the other or why people jumped on Anderson, other than we really want Bryce so people are sensitive about info to the contrary. There is nothing "anti-USC" about just reporting offers to me

Have you seen the perception power of Fake News (not what DJT calls "fake news" by the way)? If you have an agenda, why not just make up something. Teenagers based in Macedonia make quite a good living at it.

Sure, Hillary Clinton is involved in a child pornography ring that's based in a DC pizza parlor. Let me get my assault rifle and go take care of this.

He received offers from Tennessee and Oklahoma today? I haven't seen that reported anywhere.

I love The Onion. But The Onion and a few others at least admit they are satirical. Most of the other blogs that people take seriously are simply graffiti with punctuation....and this country is dumber for it. Can't tell you how many "famous quotes" from founding fathers I've seen repeated in memes that are far from their actual quotes....and five minutes (at most) on the internet looking at legitimate sites will disclose it.

Don't talk about one of two places you can get ALL the news...Fox and OAN.
You get snippets of news....same as all TV networks. They don't have enough time to give you all the news. Just snippets and opinions on those snippets. If you'd said the WSJ or other major print newspaper that double and triple checks its sources on their stories, I would agree....and not talking about their opinion sections which are simply longer versions of what you get on FOX and CNN.
