Seminoles are vastly superior at rebounding*

Gamecocks were better in scoring. BUT glad fla st was vastly superior n rebounding for you

Rebounds

FSU 33

Carolina 28

"VASTLY" superior? OP obviously doesn't know what that word means.

We shot 61% they shot 42% they were vastly better on the boards. On our 24 missed shots we got 7 offensive rebounds. On their 37 misses they got 16 offensive rebounds.

29% of offensive rebounds to 43% of offensive rebounds is a big difference.

And how did that work out for them this game? Crashing the boards is one thing, making followup shots is another. FSU won the boards, but we won the game. Shooting and transition points was the key to the game in the end.

They're skewed by shooting percentage. They count, but they're also a misleading stat. There is a reason the defense gets the rebound most of the time. And when the other team makes shots, you don't have the opportunity for a defensive rebound. In that area of the game we didn't play well, but we made a lot more shots on a lot fewer attempts, so we won. The original poster was accurate in his analysis of our rebounding, but it took us making 11 strait shots to get back in the game. 11 strait shots was incredible.

If you're going to qualify defensive rebounds as an advantage for the defense, then you have to consider missed free throw rebounds as a HUGE advantage for the defense since the defenders are given both low blocks. Because we missed more FTs it gave FSU an advantage and also skewed the numbers in our offensive rebounding percentage.

We also pounded the ball in the paint and destroyed them with our inside game. Now, that created a lot of easy baskets but that does give the defense an advantage in rebounding because they sag down with more people near the bucket, we run out with our guards to defend the other end, and they are in better position with more players because of this.

Conversely, FSU shot an incredible amount of jump shots. This creates an advantage for the offense to get rebounds not only because there is more spacing between players but the ball also bounces further off the rim when a shot is missed than it does when a post player is throwing it up from point blank range giving an even greater chance for the offense to get rebounds. It also allows the offensive post player to focus solely on rebounding position as opposed to when the offensive player is posting someone up and focused on scoring, they are by default already at a disadvantage for a rebound because there is a defender between them and the rim.

Bottom line is the bottom line though. 33 to 28 rebounds is not much difference no matter how you spin it. They had the edge but were in no way "vastly" superior. Just another over the top dramatic response by the OP.

Also, the big equalizer in this game was NOT rebounds. It was the fact FSU shot a completely uncharacteristic 8-16 from the 3pt line and 16-21 from the ft line. On the season they are 35% from the 3pt line and 65% from the ft line. THAT was incredible. Congrats to them as it gave them a chance to win but just wasn't quite enough in the end.

We do have an issue with players not collapsing to the basket on defense. A'ja got a lecture for that today I distinctly remember. Also, early in the game we were not getting set up on defense early enough, which was why they built a lead.
