Well I am going to keep this short and simple. If he were in a mlb game either major league or minor league what he did last night by turning to the visiting team bench and yelling at them, the next batter

for his team would have been plunked, and if he would have came to bat he would have been plunked. In baseball no matter what level this is something you just don't do. I can only imagine him doing this

at the other teams home park. Would not have been nice.

Fred Jordan would NOT have allowed him to do that. And if he had, the entire ballpark would have heard Freddy putting that kid in his place before he got back to the dugout. From what I understand, this was the worst display of attitude from a Citadel team in a LONG time.

And how many times has yelling F-bombs to the opposing dugout ever actually worked out for a team?

If it ends up sparking us to a win like that, I'd love to find out. 😉

I'm glad we're evolving past the point where we feel compelled to hurt people in retaliation for saying mean words.

This is happening too much in sports. The baseball managers are to blame for this particular instance. If kids started getting butt chewings and disappeared from the mound for a week or two for disrespecting the game and opponent, this would go away quickly. Silence is agreement.

Gamecocks replied by striking baseballs with their bats. Best kind of response.

I said the same about our own FB players who were too busy talking smack to better players than them to line up and run a play in tempo. I'm sure you want to put your best players on the field. But when you let it ride it only gets worse. And in retrospect we only won 4 and BOOM! got fired. Watch this short clip. The Bama player doesn't smack talk. He just gets up and looks to the sideline for the next play. There's a right way to do things.

Here is my problem with that and the un written rule about hitting a batter with a pitch. It seems kind of cowardly to me. I mean why throw a ball at another player and risk ending his career or causing injury. Throw the dang ball on the ground and charge him but why use a ball as a "weapon." I grew up playing baseball, played a year at a small d2 school and now coach high school baseball, and that type of antics have always pissed me off. Talk is talk no matter how egregious, but talk back or back it up with actually risking getting injured yourself, don't be a pansy and throw a baseball at someone. I digress.

Edit: Or like you guys said, just beat them with the sticks!

And the coaches should speak to each other and work it out. Should that not have a satisfactory result, then Kingston can escalate to the AD's Office.
Meh. We took care of it quite well. Now if the same kid (or any other) pulls the same stunt March 23 in our house (which he shouldn't given how poorly he bombed at his house), conference between coaches and Umps to ensure it doesn't happen again April 27.

Right. The point is to deal with it in a way to prevent bean balls and brawls.

Might want to RE-edit. 😉

With Covid around, I would hit him with a spit ball.

I was at the game but was honestly far enough away that I couldn't hear what he was saying. If f bombs were confirmed that should not be tolerated and I agree the coach should have put a stop to that. Otherwise if the kid is just pumped I'm not sure why I understand the butt hurt? This game is obviously a huge measuring stick for these guys as they have the premiere team from their own state at home. Some of these guys have surely played against each other in high school and travel ball. I'm positive I can look back at big games for Carolina and see pitchers beating their chest as well when making big pitches....again f bombs shouldn't be tolerated but let's not act like all these guys don't it.

Bob Gibson was a lot of things but pansy wasn't one of them.

I followed the game on live stats. Looks like he pitched 1.1 innings, gave up 1 hit, 1 run, walked 2 & had 1 strikeout. What am I missing? He was talking junk with those numbers?

He'd gotten Eyster to ground out to end the inning. He was pumped naturally. Just took it too far, and his team could cash the checks his mouth wrote.

If you’re pumped, go celebrate with your guys and quit acting like a clown by yelling at the other team. I’d say the same thing if the person doing it wore garnet and black. It’s bush league.

I didn’t see the kid for Citadel that had a great night at the plate acting like a clown and screaming at the Gamecocks every time he got a hit.

I don't disagree, but why would he feel the need to throw a 90 mph fastball at a player just because said player was being an ass, when he could have just handled it after the game? I get that it has always been apart of the game but i would rather see the pitcher charge the hitter and duke it out rather than throw a ball at him. To much damage can be done to a player being hit with a baseball at that speed at that distance.

The kid who hit the homer to make it 6-5? If that is who you are referring too then he is a high character kid who comes from a great family, i have known them for a lot of years and he is going to play the game hard and play it the right way!

Yeah the kid played hard, played great and didn’t act like an a$$ clown while doing it.

You ask that as if the answer is supposed to be rational. It's more about affecting an opponent's performance through intimidation while, on occasion, advocating for one's teammate in a reciprocal manner in response to a prior incident.

I remember what Holtz said about hot dogging in the end zone "Act like you have been there before and expect to be again". Yeah the kid was pumped but what is gained by f bombing the dugout. Baseball has changed. AS King said, if you acted up like that with Bob Gibson on the mound, don't dig in too deep at the plate. Be alert. here comes a plunk in the ribs or butt. Gibson could be nasty and send one toward your ear hole. Today with the DH, there is no recourse when a pitcher deliberately throws at someone or shows somebody up. Let him put the helmet on and step in with a hard throwing kid playing him some "chin music" as it used to be called.
