Head coach Will Muschamp spoke to the media prior to the Lancaster Spurs Up stop Monday and had the following to say...
** Having three drafted was better than we've had, but obviously hope those numbers continue to rise. Also have some guys with great free agent opportunities. Talked to all of those guys last night. It's all about an opportunity and sometimes when it gets late in the draft, it's better to be a free agent and get to choose your team.
** Surprised Zack Bailey wasn't drafted. He's a really good player and he'll make a team. Was surprised that Taylor Stallworth didn't get drafted last year too and he did well in his first year, hope for the same for Zack.
** Still working through the possibility of some other freshmen enrolling for the Maymester. Cam Smith is going to and Jammie Robinson and Shilo Sanders are two other possibilities, but nothing is finalized with those two.
** In every spring exit interview with each player, talk about what they specifically need to improve on in the offseason. The player-run-practices are a critical part of being a good football team. There's a lot to like about this team, but still plenty to improve on.
** Keisean Nixon was pinpointed by Oakland early in the process. He probably would have been drafted if not for his neck injury, but that's a really good situation for him.
** Rosendo Louis will have some catching up to do this summer because of missing the spring. Think he's on track though and think he can play both outside and inside at linebacker. This fall will try to drill down on where he best fits.
** Asked for a defensive player who really took a step forward this spring and Muschamp pointed out LB Ernest Jones, DT Rick Sandidge and DT Jabari Ellis.
** Jovaugh Gwyn is going to be a really good football player. He's a fast-twitch, powerful athlete and has the right amount of grit as far as his toughness.
** Will keep Ernest Jones and Derek Boykins primarily at the MIKE linebacker spot but T.J. Brunson will be able to play both MIKE and WILL.
