USC search tonight. Nothing has changed from a Gamecock perspective vis a vis Tom Herman. They’ve been told nothing directly from Herman or his representative that leads them to believe they are out and Ray Tanner still intends to meet with him until he’s told otherwise. Obviously, that can’t happen this week since Herman has a game Saturday.
Larry Fedora
As for Larry Fedora of North Carolina, we are told he could have interest in the job as well as the Georgia opening. He and the Georgia AD were together at Florida. The chance to coach in the SEC, the money and the ongoing NCAA investigation are reasons Fedora would have interest. He, too, has a title game Saturday night so there would be no direct activity until after that but we’re told there have been back channel communications.
Kirby Smart
With Georgia now open, the heavy speculation has focused on Kirby Smart, who, of course, has been high up on the USC board. Kirby is a Georgia grad and a fan favorite and is likely to get a strong look from AD Greg McGarity. But he personally may favor Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen with whom he worked at Florida. Nothing will happen with Kirby this week either because of Alabama’s place in the SEC title game.
