Coach K just coached the USA men's team to a gold medal in the World Championships last summer. He's lead Duke to another Final Four this season. His 2015 recruiting class is currently ranked 3rd.

In contrast, it feels like SOS is semi-retired. I don't see the fire in the belly.

one year?

would never know it with mike's elvis jet back hair dye

Really admire Coach K! One of the greats & has built a heck of a

powerhouse at Duke. I hope they go all the way and win it all in a couple of days.

The fact that he keeps talking about how he almost retired and when he will retire pretty much says it all. One foot out the door.

Apples and oranges. But 2 great coaches. I don't like Duke but respect coach k.

Didn't he want to retire but was talked out of it by the AD?

If so, we made that same mistake with Lou and he never coached after that as if he really wanted to be on the FB field.

Spurrier and K are old school coaches.

The big difference is K knows that the key to winning is recruiting and Spurrier could give a crap less about it.

I read this morning that Coach K is committed to coaching the US basketball team in the 2016 Olympics. The man never slows down. Don't know what motivates him: whether it's simply a love of the game or a desire to be consider the greatest coach ever or something else.

No, you are 100% wrong, but good try.

I assumed the sarcasm was clear in my post. Nice job going full potato.

Why stop there? Care to compare most pro wins? Playing careers? Smh

Man, I have to stand up for Spurrier on this one. You'd think Coach K would have had as many national titles if he left Duke after 12 years and then came and coached basketball here for 10 years? What kind of program would we have today if Spurrier had never come here in 2005? I'm personally thankful for what Spurrier has accomplished here. I don't like going 7-6, but I'm guessing Spurrier doesn't either and he will retire when he thinks he can't compete for an SEC title.

Agree.

Spurrier could've stayed at fla and kept reeling off 12 wins a year and beating the garnet out of our football team. But he manned up and gave his style a chance in the pros. The man has balls. Coach k is scared to leave duke and take on the ultimate challenge of the nba. He's far from one of the greatest coaches imo. One of the greatest cry baby, ref abusers, absolutely.

A few things:

-Spurrier does not cheat, and K does. He simply has the media to back him up at every turn (ever wonder why guys like Clem Haskins and John Calapari have had banners removed for using ineligible players while K's banner with Maggette playing still hangs untouched?).

-Spurrier coaches a game with greater depth and with more teams have top-notch talent, while K is part of a club of teams that hoard most of the talent each year (Duke, UK, UNC, Kansas, to name a few).

-Spurrier coaches a game where officials do not have as much influence on the outcomes of games. Aside from holding (which could be called on most every play), college football officials do not dictate outcomes as often, especially now that replay is used. College basketball is a totally different story. Coach K enjoys an immeasurable advantage with officals. He bullies and curses and uses his influence to have an officiating advantage nearly every game Duke plays. Add to that the talent advantage, and it's hard to beat him.

-Spurrier is now liked by the media but he isn't adored like K is, nor is he hailed as some sort of saint (even though i would argue that the record suggests that Spurrier has a far better record when it comes to Cleanliness than does K). Coach K is lionized as some sort of saint, and he leverages that to his advantage. He is basically untouchable and no one will question him on ANYTHING. spurrier does not have this advantage. The reason this is significant is that K actually has quite a few blemishes on his record. His teams regularly underachieve vs. seed. He has a banner that should be removed (see above). His last two titles should have asterisks b/c he was given undeserved easy paths to titles (Duke got to play SDSU, Utah, Gonzaga, and MSU to reach the title game).

Don't buy the hype. SPurrier is every bit the coach that K is, and then some.

Wow. Our opponents are killing us with SOS's age while it is not called into question with the duke god. Interesting.

I didn't realize that Spurrier was one year older. I always thought Coach K had him by a nose.
