Terrible execution down the stretch.

Piss poor guard play and free throw shooting. Mitchell was selfish on that last play.

Staley wasted timeouts down the stretch.

Agree. Mitchell's need and thought to excessively dribble ruined that last possession. Plus, poor free throw shooting.

Yep, but best team won. We never lead. Maybe next year. We had a chance at the end and blew it.

one of SC's best post players played in a fog on defense and offense in the 2nd half. it was so obvious. Lack of rebounds when it counted killed SC.

Wouldn't have mattered if we didn't put ourselves in a 12 point hole to start the game. We started 3 players who didn't play a minute in the second half. Makes no sense.

This. Get it down low. Worst case you probably get fouled. I was hoping Wilson would've taken the outside shot when we had the one point lead late.

I think we were trying to get it inside, running a high low with Wilson and Coates but too much dribbling. By the time Mitchell tried to pass it to Wilson at the free throw line, she was doubled team and the passed was knocked away.

That last play was bad; if you're going of run an ISO, put some shooters on the floor and don't clog the lane.

But this team did really well with poor point guard play. Must improve that area both on offense and defense.

Missed too many foul shots and ND made theirs. Not sure what the final numbers were, but I swear it seemed like we missed 5 or 6 in a row in the second half. ND executes very well and you can't keep missing FT's and expect to win against the really good teams. Sucks............but hopefully we take another step next year. Problem is, both ND and Uconn have young teams and will return most of their players. Lots of work to do in the off season.

Say what you will I don't think that the better team won. A better team doesn't allow a 12 point lead in the first half to be erased. Then another 12 point lead and then anther 10 point lead to be erased. We didn't play smart at all. If we would have dribble drove on them the whole game like Wilson late they would have been in foul trouble early in the second half. Coates missed all her ft's 0-5 after going 10-10 against NC. Wilson missed, Gains missed and Welch missed late at the ft line.

The team that deserved to move on has.

I don't see how anyone can question the call by Staley, the execution did not work because N.D. played very good defense.

We will agree to disagree, the best team won.

Yeah, it was a bad decision. ND was ready for the "Tiff go win the game like Kobe" play. We have a lot of things we can improve on and we are still an excellent team so that is good.

Everybody knew Mitchell was getting the ball. Nothing wrong with throwing it in to her, but she should have recognized that they were not going to let her get any kind of clean look. I would have used Mitchell as a decoy. Throw it in to somebody else. Set a screen for her. If she's open she takes the shot. If not, you get it inside, and let one if our big players try to make a move and hit a shot or get fouled. Bottom line is get some kind of shot up rather quickly, and crash the boards for a put back. A quick shot gives you that possibility, but also allows you to foul if you miss and ND gets the rebound. Then there us still time to get one more possession after any made or missed free throws.

Nah, it's not simple math. The game had ebbs and flows and the players adapt to the situation. If we make a few more free throws maybe we don't play as hard and can't make that run toward the end.

I never questioned the call at the end. That was not me, I just said I didn't agree that they were the better team. They may have played better tonight.

Didn't question the call by Staley really. Questioned Mitchell's need to keep that ball. It was obvious from the inbounds pass that they weren't going to let her open. She should've given it up.

If I was going to question Staley, I would question the timeout. Notre Dame wasn't set before the timeout. We could've created a better play with all of the disruption on the court at that time.

So. You think that was a good chance at the end?

It was ugly. Just face it. We'll get better.

Totally agree. Should have pushed the ball on up the court and got it inside.

I would have liked to see Mitchell used as a decoy, she would carried 2 players with her. But, it looked like ND had 7 or 8 players on the floor on the last play, they were everywhere. Bad free throw shooting, dug a hole in the beginning, a little sloppy and we still only lost by 1. I don't know who the best team is, but I wouldn't mind playing ND again, UConn not so much..

Now hear me out before the criticism begins. Mitchell never was even thinking of making a pass and that may or may not have been directions from the coach. Don't know.

But why, why would going inside with the ball not be the obvious thing to do Coach Staley? The tallest girls almost always win because no one ever jumps. And our tall girls were very successful most all night.

Here's where I may catch criticism but this girls' game, while better than it used to be, is still hard to watch because they are just not very athletic in any phase of the game. They don't shoot with athleticism (very few jump shots), rebounding is a combination only of boxing out and positioning because they never jump more than 4" off the floor. Defense and offense "in transition" is non-existent and break-away lay-ups look like middle school plays. The overall movement is simply SLOW. When they drive the lane with the ball, the decision is made 99% of the time what they're gong to do long before they ever hit the lane. Just no creativity....and this goes back to the lack of athleticism as compared to the men's game.

But with that said, I'm proud of our women's basketball team, but as good as we were, I just don't enjoy watching it. Yes, I respect all of you good fans who do, and won't blame anyone for watching it, but it's just not for me.

But congrats on a great season.

That was a great back handed compliment. These girls are the best program USC has, and they are not your grandma's women's basketball team.
But, was this post really necessary tonight?

And I have loved watching them all season.

ND pulled it out, which made them the better team TONIGHT!!

But if the Lady Gamecocks had pulled it out, would you say the 'best team won'? We lost by 1 pt.

Better team? Give me a break it was TWO good teams going toe to toe in the final four. We had our runs they had there runs. Came down to who had the ball last and made the shot! They did we didn't tip your hat and say you won! Doesn't make anyone team better than the other.

We lost because of the missed free throws as Tamag said. What also hurt us was the offensive rebounds ND got in the first half.

She tried to turn the corners, but ND would not allow it, she then tried to pass it in to Wilson, but it got slapped back in her face almost going out of bounds.

Then before it could go out of bounds the ND girl slapped it back in.

You really have to give ND credit on that last play.

Not a poor play by us at all, outstanding plays by ND. Saying we had "terrible execution" is absurd and takes away from ND.

Unless you are Jack Leggett you sometimes have to give credit where credit is due. At the very end ND simply made better plays than we did.
