Ray Tanner and his wife sat down and decided that Ray needed to get a job at USC where he could wear a suit and make more money. The dominos then began to fall to make that happen and continue to fall now as a result.

Hyman would never had let things get to this point with baseball or football. It's all the result of emotion, good ole boys, misguided loyalty, hero worship, cultural nepotism, laziness, and poor leadership.

It's no way to run a business. A couple of good years are great, but sustainability and growth have to be ensured. And that's been a fail. If consumers don't care about continuing to pay big dollars to these folks for this product and results, and the AD and coaches continue to take big dollars with no accountability for results, then nothing changes. You get Vandy without any excuses. And that's ok if you want it. The longer it goes, the sicker the organization gets, and the longer any recovery takes.

Get ready for another bizarre "stop the presses" pushups show from Spurrier, because he really thinks he hasn't lost it. And there's no one who will tell the emperor about his clothes. At least anyone who really matters. Ego. Greed. What a mess.

Hyman would never let it get this far?

Maybe you forgot about Darrin Horn or Dave Odom and his warchest of credibility.

In each case, he let it go only one year. It was also clear that each guy was on a short leash. The following year each was gone. The problem is SOS has put Jr. in charge. Jr. will NEVER acknowledge the issue or voluntarily leave. This is a huge problem for Tanner.

I can tell you this, Texas just canned their AD. UF, UGA, Bama, etc. would demand their AD do something or get canned themselves. That's where we need to be. I've spoken to Tanner several times. Great, great guy. But, I question his sophistication and ability to recognize and carry out the cold, hard decisions that are necessary.

Darrin got canned after how many years? Four? Many were saying it was too early and that we should have given him more time. It's not the same situation. Odom really wasn't doing that bad of a job, I mean his players did really well in Horn's first year. We still haven't gotten back to where we were with Odom.

Quitting is not in Spurrier's DNA. He is not going to know on his own when it is time to walk away. He needs help to make this decision. Someone is going to have to have a talk with him. I am hoping this conversation has already taken place with Tanner and some criteria is set for an exit strategy. No matter how bad this game is, Spurrier is not going to give up on this season. He is going to make an attempt to salvage what is left, if he can do that like he did last year he may be back for another go if he likes what he has coming back. If not, he is going to have a lot on his mind about whether he want's to keep beating his head against the wall. Hopefully, he'll know when he starts seeing empty seats.
