Big news just announced by USC:

South Carolina head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Allisha Gray (Sandersville, Ga./Washington County) has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. Gray, who earned First-Team All-ACC honors last season at North Carolina, will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2016-17.

"We are excited that Allisha has decided to continue her collegiate career as part of the Gamecock women's basketball family," Staley said. "Her hard work and intensity on both ends of the floor will be a great addition to our team as we continue to compete for championships."

Gray was the Tar Heels' leading scorer last season with 15.2 points per game after finishing second on the team with 13.9 points per game as a freshman. Pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game in 2014-15, the six-foot guard was one of just two players in the ACC to rank among the top 10 in both points and rebounds, coming in 10th in scoring and ninth in rebounding. Included on midseason watch lists for both the Naismith and Wooden Awards, Gray was the Tar Heels' top outside threat, shooting 30.9 percent from 3-point range last season after netting 41.8 percent from outside the arc as a freshman. She earned Second-Team Freshman All-America honors from Full Court and was an ACC All-Freshman selection in 2013-14, finishing among the ACC's top 20 scorers and adding 5.5 rebounds in helping the Tar Heels to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Gray joins fellow ACC transfers Sarah Imobvioh (Virginia) and Kaela Davis (Georgia Tech), as well as incoming freshman Shay Colley (Brampton, Ontario) in the Gamecocks' 2015 signing class.

Anyone want to take a guess what the starting lineup will look like in 2 seasons? Wilson, Coates, Cuevas, most probably. We need wings. Gray appears to fit the bill.

Wow. I guess that answers our questions about women's bball recruiting from a few months ago. These transfers are bigtime.

Boy, Coach Dawn Staley is earning every bit of her salary. She has done wonders for the WBB program.

This is ridiculous. We are now the Yankees of Women's College Basketball. We hit the all time jackpot, and I now I am seeing rumors of Mavunga coming too?! The girl that gave us absolute fits 3 times in the last two years an is only a rising junior?

Agree. Only goes to show that there's nothing wrong with USC or Columbia when it comes to recruiting. It never has been. Instead, it's always been about charisma, winning and being willing to get out there and work hard at recruiting. Staley has charisma and she's willing to do what it really takes to recruit top prospects. By contrast SOS is no longer a young man who can pull in the best solely on his name and he's never been willing to work as hard as others when it comes to recruiting. The difference in their approaches is never more evident. Neither is the difference in their results more evident either.

At UNC they know the hammer is going to be coming down in the form of NCAA sanctions. That is the only reason Gray and others are leaving the sinking ship.

That no doubt is true. However they are going to transfer somewhere. Would you rather they go to Tenn? To Staley's credit at least one (who will fill a position of need) is coming to USC.

If someone could put Dawn's face in this gif it would be classic.

All we can do is put it on the court. Anyone know if we will get a return game at the CLAw with UCONN this year?

What Dawn Staley is doing at SC is impressive. Very likable coach & can recruit with the best of them. She will continue to win & possibly deliver a national title or two or three before its all said & done. As a SC fan I feel as tho we're blessed to have her & I'm happy to be along for the ride.
