Vandy reminds me of how good we were way back in '10, '11, '12, uh,

Vandy is way more talented than those SC teams. They should be since Vandy has 27 scholarships to give. Corbin not nearly the coach that Tanner was. With that kind of talent, Tanner would have been undefeated.
Way more talented ? Come on did you see the 2011 CWS. That was the most Dominating CWS ever.

Vandy had 3 players drafted in the first round, including the first overall pick. So, yeah, they're more talented (not sure about "way more"). However, I didn't take the comment as an insult. I believe the poster is suggesting the USC teams were well coached and played with a lot of heart.

27 scholarships? How's that? Please explain.
Vanderbilt is a private school with a huge endowment from which they can supplement scholarships. It's unfair, but the ncaa allows it.

I meant the post as a compliment to Tanner, not as a jab at SC baseball championship teams. I'm not sure that SC had the best teams in Omaha even in the years that they won. They won with brilliant coaching and clutch play time and time again. UF was the best team in Omaha in 2011, but Tanner and company won despite a talent disadvantage. That is a compliment to a truly outstanding coach. BTW, my daughter and I have been going to CWS since 2010, and I don't think the most talented team has ever won. If UVa wins this year, the streak will continue.

O'Sullivan has shown time and again that he cannot win clutch games.

"Brilliant coaching an clutch play" is exactly what made us the best team...Talent is only one factor in who the best team is. The 2011 Gamecocks were one of the most dominant teams in CWS history, we still hold the record for consecutive post season wins and wins in Omaha. In 2011 we swept Number 1 and number 2 in four consecutive games. There is no doubt whatsoever who the best team was.

Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a winner!! Finally, someone simplifies the discussion. Baseball is a team sport and the best team wins. Those Gamecock teams delivered the goods in the clutch time after time after time. They proved they could step up under pressure and they won their last game. Which just happened to seal the CWS title!!! No doubt about it, they were the best team.

I was clearly using "best" as a synonym for most talented. My bad, clearly the best team is the team that wins.

I don't think we will see another run like the 2010-11 team from anyone. We lost the first game in the CWS and didn't lose another game in a regional, Super or CWS from that point until winning our second consecutive CWS. That is unmatched and will be for a long time....and the fact it was the last year of aluminum and the first year of the composite bat...the last year at Rosenblatt and the first at TD Ameritrade....it can't be duplicated in any way. We will always be the only ones to do that !!!! Vanderbilt may match one but to match the others would be impossible....and we played in 3 straight championship series.
