Sorry if already discussed, but why has the "Fight" left the "Fighting Gamecock Forum"? It was a perfect name for an SEC forum as it was.

Caponization is done by either the surgical removal of the testes, by estrogen implants or, as many South Carolina fans will testify, by the continual hiring & retaining of coaches who do not understand how to win.

Capons that are labeled "All Natural" have been surgically caponized. Capons that have had their hearts broken by promises of 'wait till next year' and lack of conference championships are referred to as "Fans" or "Sunshine Pumpers".

Because of the loss of sex hormones, the normally aggressive barnyard rooster, or Gamecock, becomes a docile, mellow creature, satisfied with .500 records and trips to the NCAA's once every decade or so.

The people who founded and moderated the rivals.com "Fighting Gamecocks Forum" took the name with them when they moved all their forums to on3.com. I think it also helps some of the older folks avoid being confused where they are. 😄

P.S. And you are correct; American Revolutionary War General Thomas Sumter's nickname is where the idea of a "Fighting Gamecock" as a mascot came from.

That makes sense if they own the name. I thought maybe someone decided to go PC since fighting is violent...well, THAT would be caponization. Careful with the old people jokes. Back when Thomas Sumter and I were kids, we respected our elders.

Mizzou fans of my generation are familiar with the version where you repeatedly get kicked in the nuts by our team and fate. We lost games against the eventual national champ on 5th down and on a "flea-kicker" play. Those were the good points. We have named losses:
- Route 66 (66-0 loss to kansas State in 1999 where the coach's wife was yelling at the players on the sideline. Still not sure why he outsourced that.)
- The Norman Conquest ( 77-0 loss to Oklahoma in 1986)
- While it doesn't have a name, there was also a 73-0 loss to Texas A&M in 1993 (pre-big XII non-conference game)

The British nicknamed Sumter the "fighting gamecock" because in battle he fought with the tenacity of a gamecock.

"The Patriot" movie is loosely based upon the exploits of our own Gen Francis Marion ( the Swamp Fox ) but also contains some events attributed to Sumter.

During the American Revolution we had more battles fought in South Carolina than any other colony.
