USC sports information confirms that the
CBI is not an option. The Gamecocks end 17-16, their first winning
season in six years.

Unfortunate. 85% of fans c want to see this team keep playing. Money couldnt be the reason. Has to be a conflict with the women hosting.

Frank and the team wanted to keep playing. That trumps any poll number. The women hosting is the only reason they arent playing.

' . . . know when to fold 'em!' Take the 17-16 record and start preparing for next season . . . now!
Extra practices and games would be terrible preparation for next year. Mirite? Lol smh

This ain't like football. All these dudes do is play hoops in the offseason. They all need to pull a Larry Bird and shoot 1000 shots a day till they get better. I just dont know. College hoops aint what it used to be. We got a good core coming back. I think next year could be the year if the injuries stay away.

It could. Unnecessary injury or concussion. Lack of breaking even or making money on a pay to play tournament.

Team played with fire and gumption end of last season as well. Led to talks of high hopes yet ended in another lackluster season. Just be glad Ole Miss made a stupid foul and Ty made his free throws.

This team doesn't deserve post season play. Maybe that will be enough motivation for next season.

Don't think so. Such would be the issue with the NIT as well, I would think.

Would like to see them keep playing, especially considering how strong they finished the season.

I wouldnt think we'd have hosted in the nit. We shouldve had az states spot. I dont think theyre hosting. We would definitely host the cbi. Jmo

Frank martin disagrees. Says our numbers were better than others. Should have been an nit team

Horrible decision not to accept a CBI bid. We haven't played in a post-season tourney in about 6 years. It's obvious our administrators are not all that serious about seeing our basketball program improve when the coach is saying he wants them to accept the bid and they tell him no. If their is a hosting conflict we shouldn't turn down a bid, we should insist on playing but not hosting.

I'm ok not playing in the CBI... I feel better for next year's team after how we closed out the season winning 4 out of 6 games...

We had a very good non-conference season, it was our conference play was bad but improved at the end...

Have some self respect. It's a tournament for two time losers.

Actually, every CBI champ has a better basketball program (and history) than USC - even Siena.

Really?!

Sienna won an ACC and SEC championship in their history? Man didn't realize that.

No, they've never been in either conference. However, USC has had a basketball team for 107 years, compared to 58 for Sienna, and Sienna has more regular-season conference championships (9 to 7), conference tournament championships (6 to 2), and NCAA wins (4 to 2*).

* USC technically has 4 NCAA wins, but two were consolation games after they had already been knocked out of the tourney. Either way, Sienna has doubled up USC in tourney games that count/advance toward the championship game (and last did it just 6 years ago, not over 40 years ago).

The LAST thing that we need around here is another basketball game. It is time to move on and concentrate on baseball and all of the other sports that we have going on right now.

This was the right decision, the only school from one of the major conferences to except a bid is Colorado with is 15-17 record.

Also, someone else mention if Clemson was offered a bid, I am sure they did, as the CBI offered many bids before they were able to fill the tournament.

I think next year MUST be the year or Frank is on the hot seat and we are looking at another 4 year rebuild.

Hahaha. Have some self respect and look up some facts before looking like an idiot

Unless the bottom falls out next year, last in the SEC, Martin will not be on the Hot Seat. I would say going into the 2016/17 season if we do not make the NIT, he would be on the Hot Seat. As long as USC takes steps forward, even if it is baby steps, his job is safe.

I think if you dont make the NIT that should be it. Too many tournaments and what is the point? NIT always has a few good teams in it but anything other than that to me is not worth it but thats just my opinion. Would have supported whatever decision they made but not upset we are not going to CBI or whatever the name of it is. I didnt even know they had this until this year.

If we get wide ride bodies to plug the middle, bang the boards and block out, coupled with our returnees, I think our chances of improvement are very good for next year. I think standing pat on this season is the proper action.

"You'll never see real basketball programs play in the CBI."

Some of the teams that have played in the CBI include Oregon, Oregon State, VCU, George Mason, Washington State, Butler, Stanford, Texas A&M, Virginia, Penn State, Purdue, TCU, Wichita State, Washington, St. John's and Cincinnati.

And you think it's beneath us? LOL

We won 4 of our last 6 games, shorthanded due to injuries and suspensions, underdogs most of the time, one of the wins having possibly the most ridiculous ending I've ever seen. The guys were playing well and obviously excited to be on the floor. They're Gamecocks.

Who in their right mind doesn't want them to continue playing? Seriously, what fan would rather have them play a pick-up game or a scrimmage than see them play an opponent with both teams trying to advance? Is it the NCAA tournament? No. Is it the NIT? No. But the players and coaches want to play. Why the F*** would any fan want them not to? If YOU'RE tired of watching them, don't. Maybe you should just wait 'til we make the Sweet 16 before you start watching our games again so that you won't be disappointed. Me? I'm always happy to see a Gamecock team take the court or the field.

Say what you want about me, I'm thick-skinned and can take it, but I was hoping to watch or at least listen to more Gamecock basketball this year... women's AND men's.

GO COCKS!
