Well, our Poor

Sometimes, we live too long.
I agree with you.

Regardless, it's hard for me to believe all the guys and gals I went to elementary school who are gone. I just shake my head. So many people I know who died in their 60s.

One of my best friends, whom I went to Carolina with, his mother and father lived to their late 80s and early 90s. He passed away the day we played Clemson in November 2023 at age 70 of pancreatic cancer. He was such a good, good guy, very religious.

All those people were good, decent people.

Yeah it’s very sad for those of us left behind. We miss em like crazy. Cried like a baby when mom called me at 2:30am to tell me Dad was gone. We had just spent the weekend together and watched Carolina with Robert Brooks and Todd Ellis beat Ga together. 52 years old and gone. So young.

I have no idea how old you guys are. But at some point, you have to give some thought as to what you are going to do if you outlive your spouse. It's a terrible thing to think about. But, there are no guarantees. What happened in the movie "The Notebook", where James Garner and Gena Rowlands died in bed together at the same time: she of alzheimers and he of heart failure....that's the movies, rarely in real life.

As a sidenote, Garner died 10 years after that movie of a heart attack. Rowlands died 10 years after him of alzheimers. Talk about a coincidence!!!

Wow I didn’t know that. Loved Garner. Hell of a actor. From The Great Escape to Rockford files. Was none better.

Before Christmas I was looking at the funeral service “programs” (I guess that’s what you call it - a program or order of service) I store in a drawer. 103, the oldest being from 2014 when I guess I started saving them. Some folks suffer a long time before they are gone and many of them have taught me about how to live and many have taught me how to die. I miss them all.

One of my favorite actors of all time. I remember when he died in 2014. We were on vacation at the Isle of Palms and an old Maverick show came on tv. I told my mother he had just died. She was upset. I realized then that she watched me watching Maverick as a little boy. Great actor and a great guy. They filmed The Notebook in the Charleston area. Gena Rowlands said Garner was on his way to play golf at one of the local golf courses when a busload of tourists pulled up and recognized him. The tourists jumped out of the bus surrounding him wanting to talk with him and get his autograph. He graciously talked to all and wrote nice words with his autograph and missed his tee time. What a guy!!!

I'm fine with cutting taxes. Just cut spending, too, making it 1 for 1. They are not stupid enough to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid (which many people don't know is used by some to pay for assisted living care for Mamas and Daddys). Defense spending is ripe for cutting. I believe we spend more on defense than the next 9, 10 or 11 countries combined. And BTW, if we are going to expand, let's take Canada or Britain. I prefer them over Greenland. But, that's me. :D
Idk id take Greenland for it’s resources and its strategic position

Heard a Brit from the Financial Times talking about the U.S. economy. She said that even though the FED has been cutting interest rates, mortgage rates and the Treasury yield have continued to go up. What that tells me is that the FED has lost any control that it may have had of the bond market. God help us.

Way too low. When you were young and tanning in the sun, 40 minutes of full body exposure got you 30,000IUs of Vitamin D.

The medical apparatus intentionally lowered Vit D recommendations in the 1980s to get more patients.

They used to recommend up === wait for it -- 250,000 IUs a day. :)

Give a me a few days and I'll put together a full supplement and eating plan you can run by your doc.

It will be complete with medical studies so he won't be able to rebuke.

The main issue with the meds you are taking is that they are chemicals which destroy your gut and intestinal lining over time and make the situation much worse.

Also, they have additional side effects.

Modern medicine is good at triage. They are terrible at chronic issues by design because they love repeat customers.

Kennedy will change all of this.
I agree that higher doses of Vitamin D3 is warranted but unfortunately my wife was diagnosed with Vitamin D toxicity and had to drop her intake to no more than 1000 IU per day. Like me she was taking 5000 IU per day. She only has one kidney so perhaps that made a difference in her ability to handle higher dosages.

He also knew where it came from…….CHINA! Hopefully he’ll prove who spearheaded the whole scam and handle em appropriately. The gigs up time to pay.

and bragged and bragged to the American people about how great China was handling COVID in early 2020- while everyone- even his own advisors- knew and told him China was lying about it and could never be trusted

The economy is treading water right now and will be interesting to see if Trump can contain himself from all of his inflationary policies. I think he won’t be able to but the nuts on here will blame the democrats for it.

This is when you know you’re genuinely a bad person when you’re celebrating a Russian “victory”.

Glenn fails to mention Russia has lost 800,000 soldiers- dead. Putin waged generational war on his own people and that damage will last decades and decades

Worse in Putin's Russia- especially troubling will be the returning soldiers with severe mental problems from fighting in war-most of them young men under age 25- returning to a country that is terribly prepared to treat such conditions and usually locks such soldiers up in mental hospitals or prisons for life.

interest rates in Russia are at 21% per their central bank. Inflation is supposedly right near 10% but some say it's well over 20%.

The Kremlin friendly media has been running stories about how high prices are. Analysts in Russia are warning of stagflation.

"The economy can't survive like this for long," said Sberbank CEO German Gref in early December, while Sergei Chemezov, head of the Rostec military-industrial conglomerate and a close Putin ally, called the increasing costs "madness".

_ all for a war over Ukraine joining NATO- something they weren't going to do anyway.

Whereas Biden's mind was sound when he was telling you that vaccine was 95% safe and effective and you wouldn't get COVID if you got it. How did that work out?

Also, criminal Fauci was playing misdirection with Trump on purpose during that time but you were too intoxicated with Don Lemon to realize what was going on.

I'll take Trump any day in terms of how he handled it versus Biden.

Trump’s inflationary policies!!!???? Do you remember what the price of a gallon of gas was on the day he left office? Gasoline is one of the highest input costs of production. My goodness, those Blue-colored glasses are making you blind.

Boy: "But Mom, DeeDave told me DEI was right-wing conspiracy and also provided detailed examples of why. He held himself out as an expert on the subject."

Mom: "Son, do you realize DeeDave chose to pay for extra CNN for additional coverage? He also likes booking superfluous hotel rooms and making up fantasy places he's visited in his spare time."

Boy: "Oh."

I believe we're down to Ole Timey Meat Market in terms of a total denouncement of DEI Policies. :)

The Committee For A Responsible Federal Budget says that Trump's proposed tariffs and the extension of his tax cuts will drive inflation up again and add another $7.75 Trillion to the debt. This will end ugly. And when it does, the Democrats will go into and stay in power for decades. Remember 1932. History may not repeat itself but, it does rhyme. I'm holding out hope that common sense and wisdom will prevail in Trump 2.0. If it does not, the terrible end to Trump 1.0 will look like a walk in the park compared to the end of Trump 2.0.

possibilities

1) My opinion has been for awhile that things are actually quite good. Prices are a bit too high but people sure don't seem to stop spending and travelling and doing whatever they want. Hotels are full. Airports are full. Lots of folks say "I'm doing good" but "everyone else is doing terrible." Those two things can't be true.

I can only speak for myself though and I've done exceptionally well over the last 4 years. I did very well the 4 years prior. I've done very well no matter who has been President. That's because I've positioned myself to not be subject to what a politician does. Some on here are not in that situation and are very reliant on politicians to take care of them and their wallets. I am not in that position.

2) People will realize that we've been doing pretty good.

3) Things will get even better.

4) Things will get worse.

Still slurping the propaganda I see.

Let's see if Glenn's prediction is correct and Russia's economy somehow survives. :)

Even a decade ago, this war would have been the face of anti-liberal policy.

But you've been brainwashed and now support a money laundering scheme that's killed over a million people.

And it only cost us $200 Billon that could have solved the homelessness crisis at half of that price tag and helped those who have been crushed by "natural" disasters.

Otherwise, enjoy your moral high ground. Make sure to stand on one leg - otherwise, you might drown.

There are better metrics- some likely favorable to your view- than comparing gas prices on a specific day, especially on a day in early 2021 when the entire country was right in the middle of tens of millions of Americans not buying gas and supplies exceeding demand by historic numbers

none of which had anything to do with Trump, biden, or any politician.

Especially given the last 2 years of the Biden administration has seen record oil and gas production exceeding anything during Trump's tenure.

I think it's important to note that Trump says a lot of stuff that he never backs up and never intends to do. He lies a lot.

Trump was a BIG Spender in his 1st term (even before COVID). He never cared about the deft or deficit- even though he promised to fix it. He sure fixed it alright. LOL

Sanders asked the Treasury Secretary nominee "Will you support President Trump and my own push to lower credit card interest to 10%, as Mr. Trump promised on the campaign trail?"

As anyone should know, this is a big deal for Berne Sanders, something he has talked about for years while Conservatives ripped him for it. Trump promised to do it too.

The nominee would not commit to it. He said he'd do whatever Trump wanted him to do but he would not speak on Trump capping interest costs- which of course would be a MASSIVE government intrusion into the private sector - something Conservatives would find automatically disqualifying in rational times.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Trump did VERY good in his selection of Scott Bessent. I give Trump credit. I believe Bessent will give Trump advice that he won't say in public. I just hope Trump listens and takes his advice. We all know that President Trump feels he is smarter than anyone on any subject. Hopefully, that's an "act" on his part. Hopefully he trusts his judgment regarding Bessent. Time will tell, I guess.

Some people cannot take Ivermectin due to conflicts with other meds they are taking.
Yes you better check if your on other meds. Luckily Im not and always keep it on hand. Even if I am ever on other meds I would still keep this. Sometimes you have to drop something that interacts for something more important to treat at certain times. Ya Never know

Bessent said yesterday failure to extend Trumps tax cuts would be catastrophic to middle class and the poor. It must be made permanent. He also said tariffs will increase revenue. China will continue to lower prices to stay competitive as they try to keep their economy from sliding. Chinas economy Is not in good shape today.

I know he did. I'm betting that, in private, he is counseling Trump somewhat differently. But, publicly, all these nominees are playing to an audience of one.

You may be right but I hope they are speaking what they truly believe. I may be totally wrong but the tax cuts and tariffs didn’t cause inflation his first term in fact they did the opposite of what the cbo said it would do. I’ll take the judgment of successful entrepreneurs over a bunch of government agencies with no clue how to run a business. Just my opinion

I too think he is a reasonable choice for Trump. He's a bit too stuck on a few things but he's not unreasonable and his personality is one of working with folks instead of working against them.

The think about Bessent is I think he'd happily quit if Trump starts publicly ripping him and ignoring him like he has so many others. I don't thing he'll just sit and take it.

Trump's penchant for saying one thing to one group and then immediately switching and backtracking based on the last person he talked to like he did in his 1st term won't go over well with someone like Bessent.

The credit card interest cap at 10% will be interesting to watch. That would really be a huge interference with the free market. But Trump and Sanders agree on that move.

Trump didn't know all of the Swamp Creatures the 1st time around.

When they stole the election in 2020, he was able to take inventory.

2nd term is going to be a much different story.

He's not in the majority with that view- even with other Republicans in the hedge fund area as himself.

Plus, that's really the only answer he could give if he wanted to back increasing tariffs across the board. It's more wishful thinking because he could never admit in a hearing that it could raise prices for Americans.

He's counting on predicting on China to be rational in a trade war- highly unlikely.

After watching that answer and the way he said it, my impression wasn't he really didn't believe his own answer that much- or at least didn't have a lot of confidence in it. He reminded me of Steve Mnuchin a bit as Steve would have to do the same thing when he was Secretary in saying things you could tell he probably didn't really believe himself.

I agree and that's all he could do in a hearing.

Sounds like you were thinking the same thing I was when you watched him- that he didn't have a lot of confidence in some of the things he was saying about tariffs but he had no option but to say them and try to defend Trump's position (and even Biden's position in some cases)

That was smart. But it was also telling.
