This is exactly right. Even if NBC, CNN, etc. didn't receive direct payments themselves - they used those publications to spread falsehoods and hoaxes.
This included boldly lying about all things COVID - so it wasn't just about them stealing your money and demonizing their opponents - it was directed at each and every American's health and life in general. Many lost their lives and other's lives are permanently damaged.
