Occasionally, you get a naive Republican that wants to be the "I'll reach across the aisle and "fix" something"" guy, usually to try to make a name from themselves. They are usually willing to give more than Republican voters are willing to give because they want to just get their name on a big piece of legislation for future politial purposes. Democrats then take advantage of that and use the process as a political talking point to lay blame for a problem they created and don't want to fix on Republicans. We've seen this over and over again with immigration. Republicans don't need to negotiate anything on immiigrant. It's not "broken". Just enforce the laws we have on the books. Period. Democrats sure as hell wouldn't be negotiating gun laws with anybody if they had similiar laws on the books. They would enforce the laws to the fullest extent, and cries of the laws being "broken" would be ignored.
Republicans need to learn to play hardball. Get rid of the fillibuster and fully implement what voters asked them to do. Democrats already said they will get rid of it and do the same. Tried to do it last time but Manchin and Sinema wouldn't play ball. Do it now and save our country.
