beating the white out of UNC's mouth was an extreme joy for me, my younger brother and his son. UNC is a historic rival and prime recruiting ground for our Gamecocks. CSB and staff out coached CMB and staff to the "N" th degree. We totally thru them off with what we were doing on offense, particularly playing Dakereon Joyner 2/3's of the time and then actually letting him throw the ball. What a hoot. It seemed like we had barely settled into our seats before DJ hit Bell for a 70 yd TD followed by Col. Zeb's 60+ yd TD to Bell. We looked a step quicker and faster than UNC in most instances.
On defense, we executed very well. Considering we had no Enagbare, where was the pass rush going to come from? The answer was from the entire front 7 + a S. Now we did not blitz every play but Coach White picked his spots. Staley had 1. Roderick eith had 1 or flushed the QB into 1. Reid had 1. Straughn had 1 and I believe that made up our 4. We seemed to keep our rush lanes better in the 2nd half while keeping the pressure on. The result was holding UNC to 7 points. And that was a trickeration play. I've always heard when the opponent has to trick you, they know they cannot simply line up and beat you. The answer then becomes solid defense.
for most of the game, our secondary blanketed the Tar Hole receivers to the point they had to make highlight reel catches to get the ball. Except for one TD run, our front 7 controlled the line of scrimmage. And White did this with essentially 3 CB', 2 S's and 3 LB's in the back 7.
The future looks bright going forward.
QB looks like it'll be talented and deep.
RB is where we need some reinforcements. Lloyd has not shown the ability to stay healthy. we need 1 to 2 very good rb's.
WR needs some more depth. Both Jenkins and Bell could be there most of the time. It's beef up WR's at TE's expense.
TE needs depth. Stogner comes in and that's huge. We probably need 1 more.
OL looks better and everyone returns. That is very encouraging.
On defense I feel we have an outstanding coordinator. We simply need to keep reloading/upgrading our talent level.
DE needs an extra player of 2.
DT looks pretty good. we just need our younger guys to progress well.
LB looks like we've added depth and talent. But you can never have too many.
S looks like pretty much all new faces. We'll need some newcomers to step up.
CB has several returners. We also appear to have talented newcomers & redshirts.
