must be the fans? From what I've seen of the team they play hard and don't showboat. I know their fans can be obnoxious. They can go away now.
Well sorry, I never attended Dallas but I'm a diehard Cowboy fan. Never attended Atlanta but I'm a big Braves fan. Didn't attend Harlem either but I do enjoy the Globetrotters even though I don't follow them all season long...Originally posted by fightingcock103:
I dislike their non-alumni fans. Same way I feel about Duke and Unc. Alabama and FSU in football. OSU in all sports. Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, Steelers in pro-sports. Though I'm alright with Harlem Globetrotter fans, if you're going to be a front runner/bandwagon fan, do it the right way. Go Globetrotters, if you think the refs and announcers favor the Globetrotters, you're just a hater.
Simple.........the fan arrogance. Just go to a UK football game in Lexington, you'll see what I mean. It's almost funny.Originally posted by ken in sacramento:

Sorry, but it's the UK fans that keep me from pulling for them. Total jerks that go beyond simply cheering for their own team. If they would just cheer for UK, it would be fine, but like UGA fans, they can't leave it at that.Originally posted by Kommonwealth:
I don't know what it is but most carolina fans don't like UK at all and most UK fans don't like Carolina either.
I still haven't ckmpletely figured out why though.
Haha, I actually jumped on the Braves bandwagon when I was 9 years old and they were the only team on TV in our area during that era and I would come home from school to watch Hank Aaron to see if he hit another home run. But I've been on it since...well before 1991.Originally posted by fightingcock103:
If you were a braves fan before 1991 then you're not a bandwagon fan, but living an hour outside of Atlanta in 1990 I know that that was roughly 12 people, if you're from either region then that also works. But yes, you're probably a front runner.
This sort of sums it up. Plus their dabo type coach who couldn't tell the truth to save his own life.Originally posted by Rod Dangerfield:
Hard not to pull against a team full of mercenaries.
Imo, one reason there's so much animosity between the 'Cats and 'Cocks: Carolina fans think SC should ALWAYS beat KY in football (and they SHOULD . . . see there?) and UK fans think the 'Cats should ALWAYS beat SC in basketball.Originally posted by ken in sacramento:

Prior to 2009, what toothless redneck with no affiliation to South Carolina would just pick the Gamecocks as their team to support? While I do agree with your basic complaint, your high and mighty attitude excludes fans that grew up in a Gamecock household, but graduated from a different college. That would be me. My parents both graduated from South Carolina and I have taken courses there, but I attended and graduated from PC. You're telling me I'm not a real Gamecock fan? I have pulled for them through thick and thin for almost 40 yrs, so you better check yourself.Originally posted by IrmoGamecock:
gave Wisconsin a shot. Kentucky is essentially a NBA team full of one-and-dones. I just like seeing big always-wining teams lose to an underdog. I respect Kentucky fans THAT GRADUATED FROM KENTUCKY. It's the in-your-face "we're so much better than you" fans who never stepped foot in a college classroom that act like they're part of the program I can't stand. However, that's how I feel about every school INCLUDING USC.
I'll never forget coming back form a USC @ Vanderbilt game and ate at a restaurant with my USC stuff on and this Tennessee fan called me a stupid Gamecock (this was back when UT was a national power and USC was well USC). He sounded like Jethro Bodine just killing the King's English. I asked him what year he graduated UT, he said he never went, and I then asked him, given his inability to speak proper English, did he at least graduate high school? He mumbled something and I stated I pull for USC because I graduated from that institution as did my brother and parents. I then pointed out who was really stupid for pulling for a school he never went to and could never get into. Needless to say he never said another word and other UT fans around him laughed.
I've seen PhDs who can act ugly. Education is not the panacea for rude behavior, I can promise you that.Originally posted by IrmoGamecock:

Nice. I will add this: when I return from visiting my sister in Indianapolis, I feel so much better when crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky. Also, when I was a kid, on our way back to South Carolina from Indiana, my Dad would always stop at the same little greasy spoon in Kentucky for breakfast - it was about 10 miles south of Madison, Indiana, and the Ohio River. Why? Dad said it was because it was on the 'Grits Line' - it was the first grits-serving restaurant south of the Ohio on old Route 25(?).Originally posted by Golden Cock:
I made two trips to Kentucky for football games. In both instances, Ky fans made it a point t to tell me welcome to Kentucky and that t Carolina had great fans.
I thinks about those trips often and gives me good memories of Kentucky.
I also had the pleasure of working with several Kentucky graduates and were good friends with each.
That's why I pulled for Kentucky last night, based on real time experience.
