Wow, Venables is a disaster. Listening to his post-TxTech loss press conference, he is an idiot. Exactly the wrong hire for OU. Not that I am complaining. Oklahoma had this unstoppable offense through a couple of head coaches, so they replace Riley with a defensive guy who lets that all degrade to mediocre. The offense that was OU is at Southern Cal now. Jeff Lebby may be a good OC, but OU isn't what it used to be only a few years ago.

Look @ Texas last year & what they accomplished in Sark's 2nd year.
Expect OU with Venables to do the same improvement next season.

Thats probably why part of Lincoln Riley left. He saw the writing on the wall that the talent level there was starting to run out.

Just asking but, I thought you were a supporter of giving new head coaches several years to get their program in place. I'll admit I wasn't happy with hiring Frank's boy but, the last two games got me thinking, OK! The man earned a chance. Let's see what he's got.

Often what happens is that when a program has been weak in one phase of the game, their new Head Coach has an expertise in the other. Under Riley, they scored a ton of points, but, gave up a ton, too. Thus they hire defensive guru Venables. It could be though that going beyond a Coordinators position is over Venables head.

I don't think OU can fire him, for that reason. He may turn it around. They have to give him some time. It just isn't looking good. OU had an unstoppable offense. Heisman QBs, back-to-back. Strategically, picking a defensive coach rather than continuing that offensive juggernaut may not have been the best plan. Maybe he can do the same for their defense. I just would not have gone away from a winning strategy if I had been them.

Well, first year coach. Growing pains? I wish this team nothing but the best coming to the SEC soon.

Coaches #14, #19, and #20, all coached after Bud Wilkinson had the greatest run in history at Oklahoma. Failure there hasn't happened for awhile, but it is not unprecedented in the period since they came to prominence.
Yes. There have been a few, but Oklahoma has the longest run, with a few years exceptions, of excellent football I believe. Bottom line, it’s way too early to judge Venables

It won't be "way" too early unless he rebounds emphatically. I'm not saying he's dead yet.
