Ray Tanner hired a man with no head coaching experience to take over the job of coaching the top college baseball program in the country. OJT AD hiring an OJT head coach without conducting a national search first...

    Freddie, When were you at NGJC? I was on a baseball scholarship there for 1955-56 and 1956-57. G/W was a JC and in our conference then also. I believe they became a 4 year school when they signed a 7 footer for basketball named Artis Gilmore.

    Yeah, that was Mike Washington a former Alabama player. There is the Tide and Tater connection again. Washington also called a long TD pass back on a Gamecock receiver for offensive pass interference in the 1st half.

    1978 Ole Miss.....We trailed 17-10 and we're backed up on our own 20 with less than 20 seconds to play and Garry Harper hit Horace Smith for an 80 yard TD and then found Smith again for the 2 point conversion giving us an 18-17 victory
