to shut up all the doomsday predictors on this board and strike fear into the hearts of the Dabonites is for us to get off to a good start this season, then no more Spurrier will retire this year crap or Clemson will run rough shod over us on their way to the National Championship. Can't wait for the season to start.

What ever happened to the days when fans stood behind their coach...especially the coach with the most wins in your schools history???

"What ever happened to the days when fans stood behind their coach"

I don't think those days ever existed. Since sports began, fans loved the coach when they were winning...thought he was a bum when they were losing. No different now. The thing that IS different is that we have the internet, and every thought some people have ends up on a message board.

Oh, that day did exist. But you're right about the internet. I'm sure there were always the kid of person that would question and doubt a winning coach after a bad season, but they wouldn't dare bring it up unless they were around friends or associates that they knew wouldn't ridicule them. But with the advent of the internet, I believe people's behaviors have become more like "that fan".

It's one thing to be curious, discuss and speculate about how long a coach will remain and what the future holds...but it's another to disrespect the greatest coach the team has ever had by questioning his ability, loyalty and integrity after achieving so much then hoping he leaves soon to suit yourself. Ignorance is bliss...but that is way beyond ignorance.

True... But there also comes a time when you just cant perform at the same level. Most coaches are not going to throw in the towel and give up that salary because they have slipped a little. I mean if your production went down a little and you were getting paid 4 million dollars a year, would you quit your job?? Heck no! no coach regardless of his record is greater than the University.

I suppose you blindly support the Teacher's Union too, eh? What's wrong with questioning ability, especially when the man is 70?

The only thing Spurrier did to hurt us was the 2 or 3 year remark. The rest of the season was put on Whammy and with good reason. We hold on to the 3, 4th quarter losses and we are 10-3. That would have been a good season and the frustrations would have been less. I even think most would have understood this season was going to be somewhat unpredictable. I would hope the mistakes have been corrected but the uncertainty is still there about this season. I wouldn't even try to make a prediction....

Ok... I don't really agree.

In the grand scheme of things- the HISTORY of college football in America...
Steve Spurrier > South Carolina Gamecocks.

That is indisputable. He has accomplished more, and has way more acclaim, fame, interest, respect, clout... Call it whatever you like.. Behind his name than our whole University has accomplished in over 100 years of playing the game. That is the truth. Normally a coach may not be greater than the team they coach for... SOS IS in this case. He can sit there and collect a check as long as he likes because he makes us better just by attaching his name to our school, and if we FIRE A LEGEND like SOS, no coach worth their salt will want to come here for DECADES. We better hope he realizes when the time to quit has arrived and does it on his own.

Who hired and is responsible for Whammy, no other then the HBC. He allowed Whammy and Deke Adams to suck on defense. He made the 2 -3 year comment and never pursued a top notch defensive coordinator. Hoke is still a big question mark, so yes Spurrier has laid down and is coasting until JR. gets another job

PPP did a poll of the state in 2015 and found that 97% of USC fans support Spurrier. So this "fans don't support the coach" nonsense is just that - nonsense. We had a bad year. We had three games in the bag that we lost because the defensive coordinator that SOS picked can't coach. The two coaches that Whammy hired are also bums. We then had our #2 ranked recruiting class turn into the #19 recruiting class because the coach said something stupid and then let the coaching situation (Hoke) muddle along until after signing day.

Yeah, people are annoyed. Especially after watching us get smoked by Tater Tech while previously mentioned idiot DC "shadowed" a QB with a broken knee.

What's so surprising about any of this to you people?

Totally agree, annoyed but still support him and want us to do well!!!!!

If we can get to LSU undefeated or with one loss (to ugga presumably), we should be in OK shape. But we'll see. Gotta pick up where the offense left off, which will be a big task, and our D needs to be much improved.

hoping for a Florida turnaround from 2011 to 2012. went from 7-6 to 11-2 and had one of the best defenses in the nation that year, but I DO NOT want that offense.

I think too many fans worry too much about things they can't control, take sports to seriously (as if the outcome actually affects their man/womanhood), and forget that they are letting 19 year olds (who don't give a darn about you) dictate their happiness. Enjoy the games. If we win, celebrate. If not, move on.

I'm excited for the football season this year becaues there are not great expectations, and there are a lot of unknowns. Yes, I want USC to win, but I'm excited to see how it plays out.

Go Gamecocks!

This is what concerns me about SS. I don't understand the Ward promotion. He could have made a few phone calls and as you said gotten a top notch DC. I read on here that Brad Lawing warned SS about Ward but was ignored and maybe even rebuffed.
I hate to admit it but I am not getting good vibes from SS. He may feel as if he has given USC his best shot and for USC that was fantastic but maybe he is just tired and discouraged. He may feel as Lou did who wanted to retire after the bowl victories but was talked into staying and he just lost interest.

We were not going to end up with the #2 recruiting class regardless of what SOS said. That was way early in the process and a lot of the so called top programs had not gotten all of their 5 stars yet. I am sure it would have been higher than it was but it was not going to be #2 no matter what.

Actually Whammy was brought in at Johnson's request. He was promoted by Spurrier so that part belongs to him. If Spurrier leaves it will be on his terms and will not involve what Junior does or doesn't do. Junior could have another job anytime he wants if that's the case. It might not be his dream job but he wouldn't stay unemployed long. I point back to 2009...Spurrier has out lived his ability to coach...he doesn't have his heart in it....he needs to retire because he is hurting recruiting...he will never make us relevant in the SEC. He then went 9-5 East title..11-2...11-2...11-2 and he was the greatest thing in the world. He has a 7-6 season and all of a sudden he can't do anything. Don't go slitting your wrist just yet...lol. Things will be OK...

Even Spurrier needs players to win and you just don't have enough good seasoned ones. You guys are headed straight for 6-6 at best, but 4-8 is a possibility if you lose to unc. A few badly placed injuries and it could be 2-10.
You should be favored over 5 teams but unc and ucf could easily be L's. Both have talented qb's returning compared to your lack of any real game experience at the position. I predict a stormy season for gamecock fans.

There is more to season than "a good start". If we have a good start and and don't have a good rest of the season, our fans will be pissed.

Most stupid post in the thread...nominee for dumbest POTY.

You really believe Steven Orr Spurrier is still coaching for the money???

BWAAA-hahahahahahaha

i think this year we might be better than last year....defense will be much improved and the offense will be workman like.....i dont think we blow anyone out, but most of our games will be competitive....i like us at 6-6 realistically 8-4 hopefully

I agree with you. Ya'll cannot have another TAM in your first game. But UNC will be a tough out in Charlotte. They have 10 starters returning of off a very productive offense from last year.

Good lord. With a defense that can stop last years schedule we could've been 10-3.

And with a" workman like" offense as you call it...that is if it's a run first O with a solid OL and ground game with Wilds & Williams...and if Mitch has the arm and the smarts to run Spurriers offense...our O will with out a doubt be productive enough to win games. It more than likely won't put up the numbers it did last year, but with a solid defense the won't have too.

Funny you think we'll be better this year but predict 6-6/8-4 hopefully.

I believe 9-3 regular season worst, 11-1 best.

The same thing can be said about your tiggers. You lost your whole defense and most of your offensive line. You have a Qb who cant play a game without getting hurt. You don't have a running back worth a shite. But you wont to stay on our board and tell us how bad we're gonna be. Maybe you should worry about your own team. We have a seasoned defense coming back and play makers all over the field coming back on offense. Anybody that doesn't think we have a chance to have a great season is an idiot

What's with the constant personal attacks out of you? Can you ever make a point based on facts, logic and reasoning, or is everything an emotion with you?

ENCTigger, you make remarks about Carolina not having good players, since when did an ACC cupcake like the Clemson Tigers become so loaded with good players. The only reason, I repeat the only reason Swinney will win 7 or 8 this year is because he plays an ACC schedule along with the small school teams out side of conference. Sure, you signed 2 high octane WR'S from south Florida this year but they are still high school stars. You got Mitch Hyatt because of good ole uncle but he probably won't even start this year. South Carolina should have won 10 games last year. Clemson won fair and square but will never beat the gamecocks this year in Columbia. Spurrier can't wait to get Dabo again. 6 out of 7 will really put the mighty Tigers in a tailspin.

After you losses to Petrino, Johnson, Kelly and Fisher, your bunch will really be hating to have to play the Cocks in Willy B. I expect the Carolina ground game to rip the no talent Tater D to pieces much the same as UGA did it to you last year. For all the bragging and hyping and lying Dabo does calling himself Elite and comparing Clemson to Alabama of Ohio State, the little jerk has never beaten ANY ranked team on their home field and I don't mean any PRE SEASON ranked ACC opponent. If you think USC went down last year, just wait on the Mighty Tigers to crumble this year. For a true Gamecock like me, will be fun to watch.

How old are you? Seriously? You sound like you're 16.

Learn to read. I didn't say any of those things. I'm beginning to think you're a Clemp over here to stir the pot.

Dude are you serious. You can't be. If you think you're fooling anyone you are crazy. It all adds up...you trash us calling yourself one of us. You brag on clemsux when it is really not something you have to do to make your point. You make them relevant to everything you say...so you are a tater dude....a sorry tater because you pretend to be a Gamecock but a tater non the less...

Maybe.... and maybe clemmons is one qb injury away from being 4-8 this season.

Man, this site is going to be fun to watch around 9pm on September 3rd if y'all lose to UNC. I hope you don't, because Swofford is a tarhole/a-hole, but if you do -

That'll be the clemsux fans after their first real game & loss. Petrino had you last year, but let it slip away. This year you wont be so lucky.

That's the one circled on my calendar for sure. We'll have a better idea of how good L'ville is after week 1 - they've got Auburn in the Chic-Fil-A Kickoff Classic.

Don't see much luck last year, honestly. We lost our starting QB for several weeks, and a missed tackle with a minute left almost changed the outcome.

clemsux didn't have an offensive TD the entire game. And your gimpy QB left the game early, hurt.

You're funny, dude. you forget which fake user name you're using. Sometimes you try & use "we" for Carolina, other times you forget and use "we" for clemsux. what a loser.

Hmmm. Nope - I never pose, my man. I am a CU alum and fan - have never said 'we' for Carolina. I'm here for some good football discussion, but mostly for the laughs. It's hard to get quality replies - when you guys think everyone is a troll. Yours is case in point. Thanks for the 'loser' part too - that was great.

And yep - that's what I was alluding to with the 'no luck' part. Wasn't too lucky to lose our QB in the first quarter.

C'mon back with some other extra witty comment - make sure to say 'Clemsux' a lot. It stings.
