Anyone in Columbia hearing Auburn

That's highly unlikely because then they would have to have 2 permanent opponents between divisions in football as Alabama's 2 biggest rivals are Auburn and Tennessee.

More likely Auburn and Alabama moving to the east and Mizzou and Vandy moving to the west.

UGA would be in the same division as Auburn if that happened. So they wouldn't be cross division. The only game that would be affected would be Bama and UT. People here in Alabama aren't saying it's gonna happen tomorrow. That it will be discussed more in the future meetings.
The SEC will NOTsplit up Auburn and Alabama. To do that means that they each would have 2 permanent cross division rivals - UT and AU for Bama, and UGa and Bama for AU.

Will not happen. The more logical outcome would be for Bama and Auburn to the East and Mizzou and Vandy to the West. All traditional match ups could be kept and cross div opponents could be eliminated.

Wouldn't that put UT, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, and USC in the same division? That would be one crazy tough conference division!

Actually the most logical outcome is the dissolution of the division structure altogether. The rules for a conference title game are going out by 2016 due to the ACC and Big 12 whining about it so why bother with east and west anyway.

Could be...but I would think conferences would not be happy about rematch championship games. An example would be Bama and Auburn...in years where they are both good they could play the Iron-Bowl and then turn around and play each other again the next week. Not good for TV ratings.

Au contraire. That's what the Big 12 wanted last year. The two highest ranked teams to play in the title game: TCU and Baylor. A rematch. The major reason they joined the ACC in filing the petition.

Yes, I don't think a rematch one week removed is ideal but they want teams to make the NCAA playoff and that's how you do it. Get the best match up that helps the winner get in it.

I think the future cross division schedules are set for many years to come.[/QUOTE]

Yes they are for now, it seems. I think when they ad 2 more teams we will see a 4 team division which would be very nice.

Why have divisions at all? Let the 2 top teams play each other in the championship. Also it would be easier for all the SEC teams to play each other on a rotating schedule.

If you have the top two teams play each other at the end of the year then you will never have two SEC teams in the four team playoff.
