I get where he's coming from. It's just the beginning of his tenure so it's all new and fresh to him and he obviously wants the fans to be there loud and proud. Perfectly understandable. However, the fans have been on this ride before...many times before. With the ease of availability to watch the game just about wherever you want, there's not a whole lot of motivation for fans to get out to the game, except those who make it more of a social event. The product on the field will draw the fans or keep the fans away. No place is better than Willy B when it's packed and hopping, so I hope we get back to those days, but I think the days are probably past when fans pack the stadium out to cheer on the team, no matter the quality of the product, Add onto that what others have mentioned on here recently about the fan experience at the stadium. Food, facilities, etc...doesn't sound like they do a great job there.

that’s part of it for sure. I also think if the product itself was more exciting that would do it
Really it’s not that complicated. You just have to give people a reason to come. The stadium was pretty full except for the upper regions against Kentucky. But following up that showing with a middle afternoon game against Troy (where you once again struggled) isn’t going to help sell your product. I get though that he’s pitching excitement around the product and the empty seats don’t show it which is a problem for his message.

I don’t know who wrote that article but I appreciate they said USC and not the ridiculous UofSC

I think this is a great point. In the early Spurrier years we were basically a .500 team but they were competitive, talented and the style of play was fun to watch.

So far we’ve been competitive. But I don’t see a ton of talent and I can’t tell you it’s fun watching us struggle to get yards. Offense is abysmal….and that has been through the forgiving part of the schedule.

I don’t understand why they don’t sell East upper singles cheap. Those seats are always empty. Why not sell upper level tickets to Troy game or heck Vandy for $10 a piece. Isn’t $10 better than no dollars?
There are things called computers and data analysis software. We could have a different price per seat, per opponent, per date and time being sold. If you do it right NO ticket should be sold by a scalper and no seat should be unsold before kickoff. We could even pay people to sit in the seats just before kickoff because they will spend money at the concession.

How the concessions are run is another topic.

He needs to worry about what is going on at the practice and game fields and let the hype mongerers he has hired on do this type of talking.
I would really like more wins, a productive football culture, tightly-run program with some excitement on the field going forward. I loved SOS's offense as much as I loved when Holtz lead the country in bringing back the single wing in the mid 2000s.....BOTH exciting to me. The play has to be good, and the stands will be back to swayin'.

Because that ruins the PSL process and their hope is to eventually get back to selling those seats again. Back in the early Lou Holtz days through Spurrier if you wanted tickets from the school those sections were pretty much your only option. During those seasons there were season ticket holders all the way in row 32. Thay time has since passed but the school will always hope it returns. It’s easier for them to convince someone to pay more for seat licensing if the ticket costs are the same.

Remember when Spurrier lost to Auburn his first or second year and we clapped? We played our ass off that game and we showed our appreciation for the effort. The Kentucky game this year just wasn’t the same as that. That was more “shoulda coulda woulda”.

That was the game Auburn held the ball the entire second quarter I think?

Beamer needs to get a grip on reality. He coaches a mediocre on their best day team, that was playing Troy. Folks have better things to do
Yep. He didn’t get it done when the fans were there (Kentucky). It’s not like they haven’t shown up all year.

Shane needs to get some of the military in those empty seats, like what has been done before.

Give free tickets to high school cheerleaders and bands. That would bring some parents to also come and generate some concession sales.

As vacant as the east upper was, there were actually some Troy fans up there. There were a ton Kentucky fans up there for their game.

Not to mention, he was Steve Freaking Spurrier. That fact alone generated excitement in itself and gave us a reason to watch. It's also worth noting that while we weren't great initially, he gave us a bit of a down-payment on the success that would come later when we beat UT in Knoxville for the first time ever and beat Florida for the first time since TV broadcasts went to color.

At the end of the day, it's entertainment. People pay money to be entertained. When they don't think the entertainment is worth it, they stay home. It's true whether you are talking about a new movie or a bad football team. It is what it is. Entertain them and they will fill the stadium.

I was there. Pretty sure it was the 3rd quarter. They onside kicked it and we never got it back. Jared Cook of all folks dropped a TD. I almost cried.

Oh, yeah, you're right.

I seem to also remember a ton of jump balls to Sidney. Seemed Spurrier felt 50/50 balls to Sidney were our best bet. Maybe I'm misremembering.

Not sure the military or the cheerleaders will want to come and see what we put on the field. We may have to pay them to come or maybe have a raffle with a Ford (choose your model) as the prize.

You’re right. Sidney was a heck of an athlete and spurrier knew how to get his best player in 1 on 1 matchups and let him shine. Man it was fun to have offense while it lasted!

This is correct. The Kentucky game was supposed to be a near-sellout: 800 tickets left the day before the game. There are going to be no-shows, there always are at least a few in a stadium that large. There are bound to be. But that east upper deck had way more than 800 empty seats - way more. There's some spurious reporting involved as regards either attendance or ticket sales. Those empty seats weren't about the weather, either.

I understand it....I am sure the recruits there saw it and mentioned it. and beamer knows he has to get players that are better to re build. so many of the schools we recruit against are filling there stadium.
