Best “Rassler” of all time?

That's too bad for Malenko. He always seemed like a hard working guy.
On a lighter note, speaking of Malenko and Jericho, I still get a laugh over Jericho's promos when he was feuding with Malenko back in the mid 90s at WCW. He always called him 'Stinko Malenko.'
I’m kind of surprised Jericho wasn’t mentioned here much. I know most tastes on this have been classic but he was always a great promo and has been solid in the ring for a long time. He’s also been amazing at changing things up to stay fresh and is still doing so.

I really liked Jericho, especially in his WCW days. He never got the push he seemed to deserve, but I loved the way he was able to build a serious feud with Goldberg all by himself. Goldberg never wrestled him, never talked about him in promos, nothing. But Jericho would cut hilarious promos on Goldberg, walk around with his 'Jericho Personal Security' Ralphus...

Jericho definitely deserves a mention. Great in the ring, tremendous on the mic, and gets the business. Still great today.

If you want a good laugh watch the Mulkeys' only win on Youtube against the Gladiators. The interview from the Gladiators after the match is gold. "We came all the way here from the West Coast!".

Am I the only one that loved the punching bags more than the stars? I always hoped George South, The Italian Stallion, Thunderfoot, etc. would someday stumble into a win. The day the Mulkey brothers won was like a national holiday. Mulkeymania running wild!
Ironically, George South was one of the guys in the Gladiators, the only team the Mulkeys ever beat.

South and Gary Royal.
This thread shows me that as much as we can disagree on politics, we agree that 1980's wrestling was the limelight of the sport. Remember the James Boys/James Gang? That first match with the Midnight Express where Pee Wee Anderson was the ref and Jim Cornette went apoplectic about the fact it was obviously Magnum and Dusty under the masks?

He said Ray Charles could see it was Dusty and Magnum....lol

I wonder who this girl in Greenville was? She should be around my age. A lot of bad language also.

The other wrestlers loved the Mulkeys. I have heard this broadcast but I'm glad you reposted it, man. Nikita used to give the Mulkeys an extra $50 after a match for selling so well. And Cornette mixed Randy and Bill up in the interview. Randy was the skinny guy with the concave chest. I love the Anderson match they had with the Midnight Express where the cops had to escort the Express out of the ring because the locals wanted to kill them.
The underage girl in the broadcast I had never heard of until this piece. What a young girl saw in Randy Mulkey I will never know.

Dusty loved that gimmick whether it was the Yellow Dog, Charlie Brown From Outta Town or this guy:

But that's not Dusty Rhodes. It's the Midnight Rider. The green elbow pad and the spinning wrist thingy was this Rider copying Dusty. THIS was wrestling in the 1980's. I used to leave my high school gf's house at 11:20 so I could catch the 11:30 wrestling show on WLOS Channel 13.

For me first there was George Becker and Johnny Weaver as good guys Rip Hawk and Swede Hansen, The Masked Bolos, as bad guys
Later Dusty Rhodes and Johnny Valentine, Sting, and Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, the four Horsemen,
Most recent for me was Goldberg .
I never saw Samartino or much of the Briscos and Funks.

As a kid I loved Ricky Steambolt but you didn't get more entertaining than Ric Flair from the old school. During the attitude era it was all about Stonecold and the Rock. They made things interesting. Mick Foley was a great supporting character. His different personas were creative and fun. A guy like Brock Lesner is physically superior but he has no depth as a character. He needs Paul Heyman to get out there and talk for him.

I don’t know about the best but I loved the characters from the late 70’s

Chief Jay Strongbow -
George the Animal Steele -

I met Dusty Rhodes in an IHOP in Atl in 95 or so and also ran into Ivan and Nikita Koloff at a stop light where 277 turns Into Bull St . They were coming into town for a match at the Township....cracked me up that they had southern accents.

Did anyone here visit DDTDigest back in the 90s? They covered WCW shows with informative, entertaining write-ups. This thread got me thinking about those days and some of the laughs I got there.

I found a show called “ the dark side of the ring” today and it was pretty interesting. It had me wondering who is considered the best? I watched it as a young child but lost interest. I always liked the Road Warriors.
How about Double A.....Arn Anderson? Check out some of his promos on youtube. The guy was great.

No. I used to check out PWTorch but not familiar with the DDTDigest.

If you have a few minutes, check out Uproxx/With Spandex. They have a writer that goes back and reviews old Monday Nitros and WWF Raws from the late 90s. They are hilarious and bring back lots of memories, some good and some not so good.
