Billionaire Tepper to fleece S.C. taxpayers - our legislators didn`t have the balls to say no.

Are we forgetting the corporate taxes that will be paid? And the tourism dollars that will be generated? How about just the construction? Cost of permits? How much on materials will be purchased locally? Local labor? Landscaping? Business license fees? How much development will it spot around it?

Sounds like most of the people complaining haven't spent 2 minutes actually reading what is being done or how it could benefit our state. All they did was read the headline that a billionaire is receiving a tax break to build a practice facility. EVIL RICH PEOPLE!!!

For once, we agree.

Agree with you whole heartedly. Very little jobs will be created and given to South Carolinians. Most jobs created will be low end temporary construction jobs at best.

If they really want to be the “Carolina Panthers” agree to play a game annually in Columbia or Clemson. I hate Clemson but putting a meaningful regular season game somewhere in the state would do a lot more than holding training camp here. There are only two viable options for that...us and Dump Valley.

The NFL can go play in London, why not Columbia?
People need to look beyond the football aspects of this project, if they are able, which seems increasingly doubtful.

Logic doesn't work with SC citizens. It's why we are still driving on dirt roads.

Hopefully that logic is changing , but as usual the minority are always the loudest ... Hopefully it's the minority .... at least there's hope for SC changing , it's just happening slowly

There is also the failure to recognize that if they don't come, we won't be collecting their taxes either.

When ignorant people have angst for people born in the north moving to the south, people who pay taxes , contribute to the economy , buy homes , raise families , the south will always look like a backward region by the rest of the country ... But again thankfully it's a minority with the ignorant thoughts

Well, I've driven all over the country. My impression is this: to get on better roads, South Carolinian don't necessarily need to drive farther north. They can reach better roads more quickly by driving farther south.

i have fdriven all over the Country as well, and as far as Interstates system South Carolina is as good as most!!

Surely we're smarter than those New York socialists. They balked about tax credits for Amazon, saying it would be better spent elsewhere. Now, not only are they out the promised 25,000 jobs, they didn't receive the increased tax revenue that "would be better spent elsewhere". I would love someone explain how New York is better off financially.

comparing what Tepper is offereing to what Amazonis offering, is like comparing Apples to Lawn Mowers.

Will be portrayed as a win for the state of S.C. I don`t buy it at all. Just a super rich man trying to get more super rich off of the little guys expense. Our poor elected officials will act like they are doing something great to try and get credit. I`m even less of a Panthers fan than I was before.
To all in favor of this boondoggle:
SC income tax and sales tax is approx 6% so SC will see zilch of the first $2 billion. How much revenue is expected?

This response is probably going to be one I wish I could take back, but as one of the unwashed ignoramuses from SC and the proud descendant with direct ancestors who were here back to before it was a state, I could care less where someone comes from.

I don't have to like or dislike anybody, and I know some died in the wool southern aristocrats who aren't worth the gunpowder it would take to blow them up. I know some folks from up north who are the salt of the earth and I am lucky to have them as friends.

That said, the constant, constant, constant development and destruction of this part of the country to accommodate a decades long population boom is being driven in no small part by the continued the migration of northerners in this direction.

That growth is unsettling to me. I see natural landmarks disappearing every day. I see an environment that is being ruined to throw up as fast as we can all the horse----t commercialism and big box suburban life that goes with growth, everywhere you turn.

I see people who are out to make a fast buck before the next real estate bubble pops. I see traffic that outstrips its infrastructure and worries over saltwater intrusion in the Floridan aquifer that will eventually impact all of us in this part of Georgia and probably Florida, and yet come on down, by all means.

I suspect were the shoe on the other foot and your home state (assuming you are from up north, if not I apologize) was facing rampant population growth and the pressures that come with it, and a large portion of those moving into your neck of the woods were from a certain area of the country, an ignorant minority of native New Englanders would be kicking up a fuss.

Not because of where the southerners were from. But where they were at.

IMO, that doesn't make much sense. SC is not paying them $120 million dollars to move here. They are giving them a $8 million/year tax credit, it they use it on construction. i think it covers less than 1/2 of what they plan on building. We weren't collecting that $8 million before, North Carolina was, and we won't get it if they don't move here. It's not decreasing our current tax revenue. IMO, North Carolina is basically paying for a portion of their new construction while we collect the benefit from it being in our state. Sales tax, restaurant tax, restaurants and store sales, car sales, new housing, etc. Yes, the Panthers and their players benefit, so does South Carolina. NC loses.

not really pro or con on this, but if its such a great thing, seems like Tepper could have gotten the same or better out deal of Mecklenburg and City of CLT

People being up in arms is more the optics of the situation making it look bad, than actually getting any facts surrounding it, mainly because of the timing of the press about it coming so soon after, if not right on top of, the Education rally.

Democratic dominance in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Their emphasis is on getting everyone into the same public toilets.

Democrats hate not getting every single TAX CENT they can get.. Giving them a Tax Incentive would have had the Democrats heads exploding..
